Blocks, Dots, Lines And Things

Blocks

Terriaria 1.2 is coming out soon, and members here supposedly want to have a marathon when it does. To be topical, here are some screenshots of my pre-hardmode Terraria world, which I poured a lot of time into a few weeks ago.

My small house with a toggleable entrance to an underground bunker hidden in the graveyard.

The crafting station.

An obsidian temple embedded in the mountain.

A mineshaft.

Levitating boss arena.

Here is the full tour of the world, which shows a lot of builds that I haven't posted here. I submitted this album to the Terraria Subreddit, and it became the 2nd highest rated post there, which I'm proud of.

Dots? Lines?

Here's something I should have posted at the beginning of the year, around the time they were completed; three pieces of art, each featuring a different style of pattern.

I spent over 40 hours drawing roughly 120,000 dots. You can click the image for a high-res image showing all of the dots, although it's much more captivating in person! Detail/process pic so you know it's legit.

Click for high-res. Basically, using the same dimensions as the first piece, I drew a bunch of vertical lines to produce another intriguing effect. This didn't take as long to produce as the first piece; roughly only 6 hours.

Click for high-res. Here I drew a pattern of several tiny bubbles (or circles). Took me about 20 hours. Process pic.

I did all of these over the course of about 6 months, and I like how they turned out. I'm extending the series by working on two more pieces which use a checkerboard pattern, and tiny lines of text as their makeup.

That aside, I recently finished this drawing, inspired by the odd forms found in Australian indigenous art.

Things

I've been spending most of my time at my first year of uni, playing Dark Souls, FEZ and a number of other other games, and producing art that is hardly interesting; something I do in an attempt to hone my artistic skills. Anatomy is hard; I can spend days doing sketches and studies and I still feel as though I've barely made progress.

Another thing: I'm working on editing the 1.6 Marathon video, but on top of that would still like to get footage of us fighting the Ender Dragon, if possible. So… those of you who want to fight the dragon, are you free next weekend? I'll make a new blog post in a few days regarding that, if people are up for it.

Peace out.

Did you know Phil Fish canceled FEZ2?…allegedly.

The vertical line one looks like wood. And the bubble one looks like pennies. The dot one looks like static because they end up clustering into almost-horizontal lines.

Also that is some awesome stuff and I love you as an artist.

Same with the Australian thing, seriously that is beautiful.

Wow, these look really nice :). The amount of patience it must have taken to do them, wow. I really like the last one, the way the patterns seem to swirl, its really nice. I think panzercretin summed up how I feel about the indigenous one. It reminds me of a dream I once had lol :D. It looks great though :).

Anyway, i'm fine with the ender dragon fight(although i might need to change my skin for…. reasons..), as long as I don't need to use my microphone. I accidentally created a feedback loop between my speakers and the microphone. The speakers blew up(maybe not that dramatically, but they sort of did lol), and the microphone is very distorted now lol :D. Anyway, do you have any idea what sort of skin I should use, should I be a knight or something? Hope I can do it, i haven't played MC in a while, so this is a good excuse to play :D.

SMP have you ever considered/tried selling your art? i definitely would dig having something like this hanging on my wall, and i'm sure others would too. i think they are exquisite, very mesmerizing to look at.

I saw the screens, and at first I was excited that you started making a game. :<

Nice lines, I particularly enjoy making those kinds of things because the process puts me in a trance. For some reason, your pieces remind of radiohead artwork.

It's like noticing your aging. You might not be seeing the progression, but if you look back at some older pieces, you probably will. Of course, it helps to practice and use references like a motherfucker, something I've always been too lazy for.

I posted this on another site but this is how I feel about that incident:

I don't get why people say Phil Fish needs to be so accountable for his actions. Seems to me the same part of the internet that rants about how detached and corporate EA and Microsoft execs are is also the part that can't recognize a real dude when they see it.

He's one dude, making videogames that we can play if we want, and yet we ask more accountability of him than a local politician. Gamers these days just want to use critical journalism as an excuse to hate on a single guy.

That's like stippling turned up to 11 on the first one. Awesome texture work.

Can't wait for the 1.2 update myself. I've been messing around with my brother on the Xbox version and messing around a bit in my own world on the PC version in the meantime.

Yeah, I disliked him at first because he seemed like a pompous jerk sometimes, but then I realized that there had to be a reason for it and he wasn't really like that all the time.

I look at Phil Fish as an example of why it's a good idea to know when to pull out of the public sector and get out of touch with the world, I mean heck he probably didn't even want to be doing FEZ 2 in the first place but was feeling pressured into doing it. :P

I remember trying to fill up a whole sheet of loose-leaf with bubbles back in grade-school. The size would fluctuate as I realized the larger I drew them the sooner I'd fill up the page. I had not the patience for consistency!
