I feel that GMG is changing. I can only say as much as my general thoughts understand, and it would seem that the community has become disrupted by a number of influences, producing a multitude of results, not to mention Kafei's obsessive rants.

The feeling that the GMG has been losing (or lost) something as time passed, has been around for little under a year I would say. I think that perhaps the community has lost its unity. Granted, the community has never been very united in the first place, however as the community has grown, interests and followings get disjointed and fade. Most importantly, it’s the size of the community that has disrupted its own nature. It has always been said that compared to the GMC, GMG moderately sized, and boasts a friendlier, although more seniority built social atmosphere.

Yet the senior members have begun to post less, which is natural with any community. Perhaps if the GMG is to last longer than most would assume, this period in time could simply be viewed later on as a switching of seniority, where new interests and followings must arise from surviving the clash with other interests and followings, only to produce with enough time, a new community, built up from its own influences rather than that of the old or less popular.

It may seem ridiculous to ponder the matters and dynamics of an internet forum such as the GMG, however as I quietly work on my own GameMaker projects, I sense no harm in doing so, so long as I don’t obsess myself over anything or distract too much time away from my own personal life. There is no “fall of Romeâ€? to watch concerning the GMG, I would rather think that it’s merely a collection of subtle characteristic changes over time, building steam for a larger switch for the community in the future, either socially, structurally, or a combination of both.
