GM4Mac sucks

I frequently get a lovely message giving me the option of closing Game Maker or accept the risk of potentially corrupting my game.

The program occasionally crashes when adding an image to a sprite.

After the program crashes, my preferences are subsequently corrupted and I need to delete them unless I want Game Maker to forever open as a tiny-ass window in Simple Mode.

Oh, and the room editor is slow, buggy and utter garbage.

Lastly, they even somehow managed to screw up the damn code editor. It mostly works, but damn is it painful to use.

Pitiful excuse for GM7. I can't make my Pokemon fangame with this trash. I'll either have to wait for GM9 to come out, or buy a Windows laptop so I can use a version of Game Maker that actually works.

All true.

Just send them a bug report.

Oh, wait… they haven't fixed a bug since April.

It's not all bad though. It's making me seriously considering buying a Windows laptop soon-ish, rather than saving up for a $4000 behemoth like I was planning. lol

But that's more work. And I'm lazy.

Doesn't mac have something called bootcamp (or wine, for that matter)?

Zac1790 13 years, 1 month ago

for bootcamp to matter you have to own a windows OS license and installation disc.

But I'm also really disappointed with GM4Mac… you can't even use tiles that are transparent. And there's no warning of these limitations and bugs.

Gm8.0 is pretty awesome. Dont know how compatible it is.

GM8.1 i hate though

Yes, there's Boot Camp. I had a Windows partition for a while, but I deleted it because I was running low on room. I left the installation disc back in Texas too. I could've bought another copy of Windows, but I prefer having a dedicated Windows laptop. So…

I went ahead and bought a laptop today for under $800.

Btw, Zac1790, transparent tiles do work. It doesn't show up as transparent in the room editor, but it will be when you run the game. At least, white as the transparent color does. I saw a bug report where somebody said the only colors that work are white, gray and black.

I use gm4mac when i'm too lazy to switch over with bootcamp; it is absolutely terrible to use.

Apart from the fact that i'm limited to gm7, most of the time the ui bugs out, or gets so out of whack i have to close and reopen it.

They really need to either fix it, or stop selling it.
