So guys, now that Black and White 2 is out, what do you think will be next for the series?
My personal beliefs are that the next batch of Pokemon games will be Ruby and Sapphire remakes (or perhaps direct sequels) for the 3DS. And I believe that the games will be entirely 3D, or at the very least feature fully 3D Pokemon battles. Why do I think these things? Well… let's start with the obvious one. The next Pokemon games will be on the 3DS because it's quite simply long overdue for some Pokemon love. Spinoff games don't count for shit. Plus, I think Nintendo doing Black and White 2 instead of just a Pokemon Grey was their way of giving non-3DS-owning Pokefans one last bit of loving before finally bringing the series to their current handheld platform. So next, why Ruby/Sapphire remakes? Well, ever since the GBA, Nintendo's had a pattern of doing new games then remakes then new games then remakes… and now that they're presumably done with the new Black and White series of games, it would seem logical to expect a remake next. And Ruby/Sapphire are the next on the list after HeartGold/SoulSilver.There's also Nintendo's pattern of remaking Pokemon games for hardware platforms 2 generations ahead of the platform that the originals were on, and the 3DS is 2 generations ahead of the GBA.Then with D/P, Nintendo gave subtle hints for the upcoming HG/SS. Are they doing the same thing, giving hints for the upcoming R/S remakes in B/W or B/W2? I never played the original R/S so I probably wouldn't recognize a hint when I saw one, but some people think so, pointing out things like how a cave in B/W2 is filled with water (Aqua) in one version and lava (Magma) in another. Now why do I think it'll be entirely 3D? Well they're gonna want to take advantage of the 3DS's 3D screen and more powerful hardware. And with the exception of some elements, such as character and Pokemon sprites, the B/W series is practically all 3D already. So it seems they're headed in that direction. Plus, with the upcoming Pokedex 3D Pro app for the 3DS, they'll have 3DS-ready 3D models of all current Pokemon. Did they seriously crank out all 649 of those models simply for a Pokedex app? I don't think so.But what do you guys think? Do you think I'm spot on, or do you think I'm way off here?
Yeah, but I think they will stick with the sprites, models take more memory than sprites.
Pokemon: Reparations
My prediction: the next official pokemon game will be a pokemon spin off for the WiiU.
This is the first Pokemon game in the history of Pokemon games that I have no interest in whatsoever. I'm not kidding either–I even bought a few of the Mystery Dungeon series where you play as a Pokemon.
A Ruby/Sapphire remake would be alright, considering that I went for HeartGold. Ruby was one of my favorite of the series, because it was that midway point where the graphics were getting better but the gameplay was still pretty much the same. Well, except being able to make bases. That made me happy. I hope they keep that if they do a remake.Nintendo has never switched consoles in the middle of a generation. If they make more genV games, possibly including the remakes, they should be on DS.
That would be a long time to go without any new pokemon and they've always started off a new console with a new generation, also they've never started a new generation with remakes because then the games wouldn't have whatever pokemon end up in the non-remakes. It would be like not being able to trade all your gen 4 pokemon to HG/SS
Also the GBA games aren't really in need of an update yet, the engine has not changed as drastically as it had for gen 1/2. Plus Black/White 2 filled the gap that a remake normally would.I think they might go with a 3d battle engine, if only because it would be annoying to add 3d effects to all the 2d attack animations.@nehemek: if you're talking about RAM, the 3DS can handle a few 3D Pokemon onscreen.
If you're talking about cartridge space, again probably a nonissue. After all, the Pokedex 3D Pro app containing models for all 649 Pokemon is being made as a downloadable title. And the 3DS only "officially" supports the 2 GB SD card it comes with, so the Pokedex is presumably a fair amount smaller than that.@lasper: Who says that the Ruby/Sapphire games would be genV?@kabob: How would that be a long time without any new Pokemon? Seems like business as usual to me: New game release (B/W) -> Refined release (or in this case, direct sequel B/w2) -> remake (r/s) -> new game. And you're right, the DS engine isn't as drastic a change from Ruby and Sapphire as it was from the GBC engine used with G/S. but I reckon a fully 3D engine for the 3DS would be about as significant a change as you're gonna get to warrant a R/S remake.B/W2 didn't fill the gap that a remake would've taken, it filled the gap a third version would've taken. Now regarding the trading issue of future gen6 Pokemon… Being that this is the 3DS and all, I bet they could just patch the R/S remakes to allow them to receive these brand new Pokemons.Who cares what the next game will be? We already have Pokemon Sapphire.
Sapphire is still my favorite.Fuck the haters.Black and Blue.
Someone had to say it.Well if they do a remake, based on previous generations it will be announced before summer 2013 and released later that year so that it doesn't compete with sales of gen 6 in 2014. But thats assuming they keep the release schedule they used for gen 3/4.
