It does, so far.
Took me a minute to realize where I needed my images to go, but I'm starting to like where its going.I am using the demo version though, so all the fancy stuff is off limits at the moment(3d and such). That and theres a 5-minute time limit to play the completed game. This doesn't really keep me from seeing what it can do though.I've started up a few conversions, first off was Rick Jason, a sci-fi side scroller shoot-em-up that was in fact originally made on QuickBasic, so I think its a fitting choice. I'll be designing it for the GP2X Wiz, so the view will be half, and the graphics will be 75% of the original size. I didn't like how the graphics turned out half-sized, so it was a nice compromise. So far I'm trying to work out the best way of producing tilemaps. I may either use GM to make a tile mapper that exports out the information in a readable form for GLB, or forsake GM and use FreeBasic…but I'll most likely use GM since its quicker to throw a program together. There is a tile map program out there that could work, but the code I found that supposedly reads the files for GLBasic had errors that I could not figure out. It also could be related to the fact I'm using the demo version. So until I hash one out, it may be a little while before I make a level. I can still make an empty space level with units, which is my intentions.Another project which I thought would be easy to transfer, the E v. O Lock-Map game I devised, hit a little snag since I was planning on making it for the iPhone. GLBasic does iPhones apps too. Yet iPhones have a different size resolution which I did not know til recently, 320x480, so I'll have to redo a few visuals, and most likely make the play area bigger and the control completely touch/mouse controlled. These two projects shouldn't be too difficult, espicially the latter since the majority of that game was handled by code and simple 2d arrays.Depending on how successful these two ventures are, I may just scrap the GM projects and make the transisition.Freebasic at a time seemed like a great program, but it was limited to windows, which these days is not the best of things. I think we are seeing a gradual death of windows gaming, not necessary PC games. Web games which are for multiple OSs seem to be doing well, but they have their drawbacks too.So while I play around with it, I'll make up my mind on whether or not I wish to keep using it and purchase it. Considering GM8 has become less likely, as it doesn't seem quite worth it anymore and I really don't want to support Yoyo.Of course GM will always have a place in my heart for how it was designed and layed out, thats something Yoyo can't kill, yet. They're trying though.
thats the thing that got me when I started working outside GM, cause even when you code a game you also have to develop a level editor of some kind lol it was frustrating. ^_^
Sounds nice, even though BASIC derived languages need to die in a fire.
Yay that makes things tricky. Although I developed some good practice with The Crawl editor.
@ludamad - don't knock it unless you try it.
