So, believe it or not, lighting and fogging did not use the Z value, just X & Y. With a quick mod, now its there, allowing me to complete the transforming stairs.
The stairs are just one object, picking the neighboring walls and pushing the ceiling up a space, replicating itself…yeah, just look at the pictures. Lights can be placed at any point in the grid, have super high bright or create darkness.Going up/down stairs will be like a cutscene animation, then fading in or out.And new improved stair models.And here's the gamejolt profile which I'll update more often, save on spamming here with updates. Just big ones.

Instead of having pieces of the level light up, couldn't you draw a transparent sphere that is slightly yellow?

Got to at least finish the basic engine, which is getting there. Next step is linking levels and the transitional effects.With actual objects in rooms, this is going to look amazing. Planning to release the source code? =P
Technically the source code is released with every demo, but I'm waiting until I have little more done and clean/comment the code more…and how-tos for editing.
