I had to get a new laptop. My old laptop was bought in fall of 2005 for $1200. last year I dropped a wheelchair on it and cracked the screen. This summer the wheelchair came back to finish the job, leaving me with a totally black monitor. Despite my love of gothness, a completely black screen is kind of useless, so when Aldi's was selling a Medion Akoya for $600 at the same time that our sales tax was suspended for a couple days, I had to get it. It has better hardware than my old computer and a working monitor, but came with Vista, which I refuse to use. I decided to install Ubuntu and wipe the bastard microsoft off my hard drive. The only problem is that I have no clue how to use linux…
My sound does not work. I think it's a driver issue, but I can't find a working driver because I'm not sure what sound card I have.My wireless does not work. I have no clue how to start fixing that.I can't play Starcraft yet, which is the only reason to even own a computer.I don't think Game Maker works on linux, but Python does, so I'm ok with that. And my job sucks too. I maintain bioreactors in an R&D lab for a multinational pharmaceutical company. We're supposed to making viruses and bacteria for vaccines, but someone screwed up an experiment so they won't be using the reactors for 3 weeks. I have to quit my job to go back to school in 3 weeks too. That means I have nothing to do at work for the next three weeks………… bored….. bored….. BORED!!!!!!!!7!!!!!!!7!!!!7!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I never could get the wireless to work on my laptop either when I installed Ubuntu.I have very little experience with Linux as well so I can't help there.
Have you tried the windows emulator for Linux to get Starcraft working?-Elmernitewhy the fuck are you still warned?
The wireless should work out of the box if you're using the latest Ubuntu. Sound is kind of tricky, I figured it out once on my old laptop but couldn't get it on another one.
Check out a program called Wine that let's you install and run Windows apps in Linux. Use the Konsole to installe it by typing: sudo apt-get install wineIt will ask for a password, one that you should have setup when you made your account as a master password.I was doing a wheely in the chair in front of the couch where my laptop was. I fell backwards, the handle of the chair hit the top of the screen, applying about 200 pounds of weight one 1 square inch at fairly high speed… worst thing is, I don't need a wheelchair. Not even sure why we have one in the house.
A wheelchair, wow.
Fill the job's time by figuring out where they keep the anthrax
And serpy, what should he do with it once he finds it?
Eat it
