Org. Chem Test.

Posted by Shork on Oct. 4, 2006, 1:52 p.m.

So I had my first test in Organic Chemistry 2, and I think I did ok. One problem was with a Diels-Alder reaction. I did the first step correctly:

However I went too far and didn't realize that the ring on the left was a benzene, I saw the diene on the left and the dienophile on the far right, and thought, a second Diels-Alder reaction would happen, so I made the final product shown here. I even built it with a molecular model kit and it seemed to work. However, benzene will not go through a Diels-Alder, and the ring strain on that central double bond would be tremendous. I'll get partial credit since I had the the correct structure as an intermediate, and I did a bimolecular dehyrdation extra credit problem for 10 bonus points, so it's ok.

By the way, did any of you understand any of that?

Chemistry sucks.

I understood that… if you think that is difficult wait until later in the year =(

The problem is that I thought it was easy until after I turned the test in.

I kinda understand that.

Sort of…

Carbon Hexagons… I got your back!

…are those carbohydrates?

Organic Chemistry o.0

I hate it when you think its real easy and oyu turn it in, then suddenly you realize it wasnt lol.

No. Carbohydrates usually follow the general formula Cx(H20)x, like glucose is C6H12O6. And there is no math in undergraduate organic chem. Thank God. I have enough of that in physics…

…physics test tomarrow…forces, energy, momentum… ick!
