Screw Halloween

Yeah, I know, I suck. Just can't get motivated to work on this. It's hard for me to work on something if it's not something fun to program (e.g. something I've never done before.). Plus I'm not really in the Halloween spirit, as while everyone else is out having fun and scarfing on candy, I'll be at chemistry lab trying to blow everyone up >:) But yeah, in any case, don't expect to see an entry in the competition from me.

So I've figured out something about myself. I like to program. Yup, that's about it. I used to enjoy coming up with ideas and storylines for games, making graphics and such, but now all I really like doing is programming. So what I've decided to do is focus very little on making games, and instead just programming an engine for whatever my brain cooks up. This works out well, as most ideas I have for a game are centralized around one special aspect of the gameplay, which after programming I lose interest in working on. I'll still probably keep a game or two in progress, but I really only wanna focus on programming something cool. The advantage to this is I can churn some neat stuff out quicker and move on to the next idea before I get bored. So now, onto my project list.

Terrain Deformation engine:

Anyone who's read about, seen footage of, or played the demo of Fracture knows what terrain deformation is (besides…the name is pretty self explanatory). I've done all of the above, and decided that I wanna give it a shot in 2D. I've got the whole thing pretty much mapped out in my head, even down to the Terrain Creator I plan on making. I've got very little done on this project for two reasons.

1. I started working only a couple days ago.

2. I have a very annoying bug that seems to have sprung from nowhere.

This project is no.1 on my list of things to do.

Verlet Physics:

I recently read a couple articles about this to get a more in depth look at what it really was. After reading, I decided I'd give it a try. I've really done nothing in this area except for coming up with an idea for a game I may take up later. The biggest thing I wanna do with this is create a decent soft body physics engine to create the game mentioned above with.

Unnamed FPPS:

FPPS meaning First Person Puzzle Shooter. I actually came up with this idea a while back, even before I had seen anything about Fracture. The inspiration somehow came from playing Portal. The idea is that you'll be in a controled test environment (ah…here's the Portal inspiration) where you will be given a special device. The whole room (which will range from anything like a simple cube, to more complex rooms which break off into different sections.) will look like a giant grid. The floor, walls, ceiling, everything except for panels which the gun won't work on. Each cell in the grid can react to the gun, and when shot (depending on which beam you choose to fire) it will either raise, or lower. The whole game will focus on getting from point A to point B using the ability to completely change your environment.

Again, this will probably mostly be me coding the engine and then not doing much with it, but at that point all I really need are levels.

Alright other stuff in life:

Life can be complicated at times, I play my guitar a lot, talk and hang out with friends….yeah, pretty much your normal everyday stuff.

And finally, if you read all that you deserve a cookie.

If not? I don't blame you, most of you don't give a crap anyway XD
