Because ordinarily it would look like this:
Sophia Wolfram from that one metroidvania Taizen's fromor this:Jem from a school project- an adaptation of To Kill a MockingbirdBut! I've decided to TRY AGAIN!and THIS TIME, with ACTUAL EFFORT!All for a project that I've filed under 'To Do Never,' alongside Ricerca Strano and Lunacy Star 3.It would follow the story of Average Guy who is Also Some Sort of Crazy Sampson Rhodes(this is him)doing SOMETHING to bring upon the end of the world, as foretold in some ancient prophecy known as the Ragnagest, only for it not to happen.Instead, it merges with some parallel universe, and we end up with some novel oddities such as subterranean shopping mall dungeons and skyscrapers implanted into orbiting floating islands.Shortly thereafter, he meets a resident of the other world, one by the name of Sashahan Triga, a monarch that rules over a decidedly large portion of the Earth. The objective, then, is simple. Try to destroy the world again! For you see, even the failure was documented in the Ragnagest.Since the world is a mix-up of both modern society and Weird-Ass Parallel Earth, I've come up with two sets of names for the characters in the game. The first has stuff like Natalie Faust, or Marlene Karish. The second contains Trisage Vimena, Gezera Mugest, or Sophe Franstozi.(I've only put minimal thought as to how these people would look)What the game would be, is some sort of platforming game (because I haven't made enough of those no sir) with only very minimal RPG elements (because I put them in everything right) such as item collection. That's really it though.I imagine you would control either Sampson up there, or Sampson AND Sashahan at some points, or something. Before you can destroy the world, you DO kind of need to take over everything else (for, you see, they have stuff that you want.)So, essentially, this game is like Ricerca Strano, except with less parody, and more straightforwardness, also set in modern times, and in a different universe, and it's not a TRPG. ….I guess the only similarity is that you're going around knocking heads with other kingdoms. But who doesn't do that, right?!Yeah, I'll just give up on this now.New stuff:Ferre from an unreleased book, New Estherson
Hit the nail on the thumb, firestormx.

omg i thought this was about spriting, DID HASHTAGS REALLY HIJACK THIS ON THEIR OWN? you guys are so boring.
you've definitely got a consistent style going, which is good. Ferre looks awesome, i definitely think these would fit well in a game. you're doing great. :)Well I'm a pixel work noob but I'll attempt to comment.
The blue guy looks ok. His arms look weirdly proportioned in the idle pose, his left arm looks shorter. His bag looks kind of weird, so does the silver thing across his shirt. You don't need that many colours, and the colours don't match as well as they could. By having lots of colours you're introducing banding and shit, particularly on the hair, nose and bag. Having those two skin tones is pointless, they're too similar. The colour of his shirt and his chain look kind of gaudy compared to the rest of the colours, which are otherwise quite good. The portrait is good, the hair in particular. You don't need those two colours for her pupils, or the yellow headband. Her… chest is reading as weirdly squished together because she has no right shoulder. The last one… "Ferre", again, suffers from having weird ass arms. Different sizes. I like the colours on the skirt and apron but the outline looks wrong. It feels weird criticising colour choice because I suck at it. What I do for the most part is use generic palettes like these ones. Arne's 64 is the one I have most experience with and it's handy. Using pre-made palettes ensures all the colours match. It's a good idea if you know absolutely nothing about colour theory like me. Also, as a (rough) guideline, the less colours you use, the more unified your pixel work is going to look because the same colours are going to appear throughout. For example with your blue guy, if you used the colours in his hair and/or skin to colour the chain, it would look like it matches. You're getting pretty good Taizen. Keep it up.
Ah, thank you, Acid, hel.
As for Toast's critiques, thank you very much, and if I may provide some responses:This explains banding and lots of other things
