A music critiquey thing request

So I've probably made music pieces over a number of different genres. Most of them horribly stupid and awful.

But I digress.

There's no getting better without people angrily downvoting everything I do, right?

One of those trendy timelapse videos of me composing will be forthcoming.

(Bear in mind that I'm only going to post the work that I actually want people to listen to.)

I've made some new-ish things in the past while.

My favorites out of the newer ones include:

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/untitled-song-7

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/forest-jade

(Forest Jade was made today; Untitled 7 was remastered, as it's from 2010)

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/war-zone-v2

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/let-us-begin-v2

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/untitled-song-30 (on the fence about this one, though)

Older pieces that I don't remember if I've shoved in your collective face:

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/untitled-song-13

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/midi-untitled-song-27

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/stage-4-2-renegade-bedtime

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/neonmetalarena

https://soundcloud.com/taizenchisou/radicallaserunderworld

So…. tell me what you think! I wanted to get some pointers in before I sit down and begin working on the soundtrack to… a new project.

True, true.

Taizen needs a dedicated platform to work with, fishing around in a FLStudio demo doesn't seem to be helping him. :<

Anyway, I encourage you all to try listening to this fresh new monstrosity:

This, following a Wikipedia readthrough on melodies. So shameful.

It… is? Did I do it right?

And also, I was looking at the article for a technical definition of the word. I'm still not certain of what I'm doing. I just know that I like how most of it sounds. Like the drum tracks.

Making drum tracks is one my favorite things to do when composing, mainly because I play real drums a little and know a bit about them.

Let me put it this way. The melodies are what make Touhou music stand out.

That's… not helpful at all.

Look mum! I commented on a soundcloud track!

Oh hey, thanks. (Even though I don't really believe you :D )

Taizen, I really don't know what it is you think that makes Touhou music memorable. Every track has some sort of catchy melody that stands out (or at least a combination of them). Though I guess that percussion is generally very unique too. No real patterns, just structured around the mood of the section.

NOT HELPING.

so they're more than likely to hum the melody.
Yeah, I'm a rebel because I like to make up the harmony along the way.

PARALLEL FIFTHS.

When someone is humming a song or a piece, they can't hum all the individual elements of the piece together, so they're more than likely to hum the melody.

You see, that I get.

@Kilin

I think that Touhou music is cool because it's so damned catchy. I hum Reach for the Moon every other day simply because everything flows so well.

Castypher 11 years, 9 months ago

That there is your melody.

wut is reach for the moon
