Such is Life

Life is such a fragile thing, it seems.

Thursday, a student at my school's BOCES program(it's a out-of-school class program, mostly teaches computer science and such), suddenly collapsed during class, and lost consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away.

Now, I didn't know this kid, but a good friend of mine did, and happened to be within feet of him when he collapsed and had a seizure(as my friend describes it). In essence, he watched his friend die before him.

I've been doing everything I can to keep his mind off of it, as hard as it is. The day it happened, I called him as soon as I got home in an attempt to console him. The first words out of his mouth were, "Yeah, I watched a kid die today…"

From that point on, I knew it was going to be a very tough time for him. I'm going to do everything I can to keep him in high spirits, and help him through his traumatic experience.

I actually wanted to go to his house this weekend, but I can't because I have to fucking work. I'd much rather be at his house right now, because I can keep a close watch on him. It's bad enough he went through this, but he also suffers from severe depression, for which he takes medication. For now, I'll just do the next best thing - call him everyday and let him know I'm there for him.

Wow, I just realised that sounded like some kind of Hollywood movie cliche. But I don't care. That's my duty as a friend.

Not a fun thing. I've seen someone die before. You have to understand, it changes the way you look at things.
