I did a few quick fixes on the portrait… definitely looks better already
link(lol at people on Reddit offering to code this)(also lol at people wanting to buy the game, implying I wouldn't receive a cease and desist order immediately)p.s. how do i put images on 64digits with a scroll bar instead of being scaled to fit the page?
Two things (if you're going for a real pixel artsy style, though it may reduce the purposeful kitsch look):
1. The edge of the ear has banding, i.e. the dark line running parallel to the edge, making it look very MS Painty (as opposed to the rest of the face). I suggest making the outline of the inner ear a bit misplaced compared to the edge of the ear. I tried doing it myself, but I'm not really sure if it looked better, heh.2. There's no transition between his black beard and his face, making it look like it's glued on.I think the blue pixels on the right side of his face look a bit like drool. Also, Charlie, nice job on that. I'll let you know if I ever need anything professionally pillowshaded.

Reddit is to willing to hand over its money that posting anything there feels like prostitution.
The hearts could do with a bit of work… right now they're not pointy enough in the bottom and not round enough in the top. I really can't explain how to improve them without drawing.
Game design wise, they should be a bit bigger too because in a 3-life game it's quite important to be able to gauge your life bar instantly. I don't think you're going for a danmaku/shmup game that should be one-lifed either (where dying/taking damage is incredibly obvious so you can keep your health in mind at all times). Also, you shoudl replace the font into something more retro-looking than Arial to match the game style. Preferably a fat font with wide monospaced letters. The main game graphics are pretty OK and same-styled. The angry birds, though… They kinda stick out a little bit. Suggestions:1) Wings.2) Beak/eye outline looks bad. Consider drawing without outlines or with dark red/dark yellow outline instead of pure black.3) And if you color them blue or green instead of red you might be able to sell the game.

:>(heh, Reddit.)It is a bit smooth now… is this the "pillow shading" I was warned about?
No, that's not pillowshading. That's pretty good actually, props on the edit.
This is pillowshading.I'm tempted to comment on that game saying "Like if pillowshading brought you here!"

I totally agree with Death. The 1st one had a more wrinkled quality, which is more conducive to looking angry imo.
needs moar beard
give his gun a beard, tooand the birds should have beard as wellThe hearts could do with a bit of work… right now they're not pointy enough in the bottom and not round enough in the top. I really can't explain how to improve them without drawing.
