Puzzle games

I'm just making new puzzle game what is little like Rubik's cube but it's 2d and you move blocks differently. In game you must select cube lines and then move them so 5 same color cubes makes line. But this is enought about my game.

I was just wondering, how popular puzzle games are, what you expect from them, what's the most important aspect in them etc.

I think here is couple peoples who have made somekind puzzle games like example LauriP's Quad. So shortly, do anyone have experiment about this genre and can give some hints?

Personally I think that puzzle game needs good gameplay, bug free, very good graphics and challenges what requires either thinking carefully or thinking quickly. Graphics are very important aspect in puzzle game, because it's one way how they can attract player with screenshots. I also think that when other genres can survive with worse graphics, puzzles requires better graphics so they can get attention.

Puzzle games are actually the highest selling computer games around. Mostly because the average game player is a middle aged woman, and they (in general) prefer not to rely on reflexes. For it to be a good game just requires a good concept, and lots of polishing.
