What happened to the old internet?

Posted by Vance_Kimiyoshi on June 18, 2010, 4:24 p.m.

I've been revisiting all the sites I used to frequent, including 64D. Some of the sites are still there, and they still have members, but I'm not sure how many of them are the same members I knew.

Does anyone here remember me?

If not, hello. You can call me Vance. Or Nave. Or Clyde. It all gets very confusing, when I have different names across the internet.

I want to get back into a game development community, like in the old days. Hopefully this site can accommodate me in that regard.

So what am I working on right now? Well, I've started a project using XNA, though I'm considering putting it off for a smaller game to get more re-acquainted with a library I haven't used in ages. Feel free to post ideas below, for simple games you think might work; I'd greatly appreciate suggestions.

Hai Vance. I don't know you, but I'm glad old users are coming back still, in a slow but steady stream….

Edit: We pretty much all use GM still to some degree, none of us finish anything though since most of us are in college and are busy elsewhere.

Hello Ferret. Good to meet you.

So, does the majority of users here still use Game Maker? Or have they migrated elsewhere?

When I program games I still use GM. Normally I program websites though.

Web design's always fun. Something interesting (Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET, etc.) or boring old PHP?

hello Vance, this is Quietus. good to see you're not dead.

can't speak for everyone else but i still strictly use GM (too stubborn/don't really feel the need to learn a new language).

@Cyrus: I remember you too. How's it going?

@Quietus: Osh- how's it going, man? Long time no see.

yay no one ever remembers Quietus :P

indeed, don't think i've seen you since Robosquid was GMClans (or, not dead).

Hey wb, I fiddle with GM still, but XNA is something I want to learn.

SteveKB 14 years, 6 months ago

i've been using gm for some project that i need to complete on time but i'm migrating some of them to xna after and will be trying to use that (xna wanting to install some libraries to people's computer doesn't help with easy distribution)

Vance_Kimiyoshi 14 years, 6 months ago

@Quietus: Yeah. Just joined up at Robosquid too, if you're there. Sucks, I had like account #7 but the old accounts are gone I guess.

@Toast: Why "want" to learn something? Go learn it.

@meow: Yeah, I don't use XNA because it's good for Windows programming, I use it to develop for Xbox.
