Hiya, I'm Yal, long-time Game Maker user with big ego and awesome output. Some of you might know me as a Local Moderator over at the Game Maker Community.
You might have heard about the 64 Digits RPG competition? If not, read this:http://www.64digits.com/users_php/index.php?userid=Toast&cmd=comments&id=272934&You gotta join, because the more the merrier! If you need an engine to work with, or to learn from, I'm working on one. (It's unfinished but should give you a pointer about where to start). Feel free to use it… as long as you don't make a better game than I'm gonna do. =PScreen shot:GMC topic and download:http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=529533The engine is VERY bare of content, so you shouldn't break the rules of the competition by using it since you gotta make oodles of stuff yourself. Oh, and it's not complete either and I'm not gonna work on it 'til after the competition. Good luck! ^__^Gonna join the RPG comp and need an engine? I has one.

I believe you have to start from scratch on may 1st.
lol svf that can't be true, otherwise Game Maker wouldn't be allowed, or sfxr, or RPG Maker… come on, let's get real yo
anyway hi Yal I'm a GMC member I like the GMC it has a cool acronym (I like acronyms)n-no cyrusroberto you misunderstand
yal is mentioning an engine that can be learned fromthat is an entirely differentm thingI don't think Yal could have just waited to program it, it was released as a WIP on the GMC quite some time agomy answer was correct  but that's ok… I still love all the 64digitsers1. The aim of the competition is to develop entirely your own game within the time limit (1st May - 1st August).
3. You must not… without good reason use significant amounts of game content that you or somebody else had already made prior to the competition.Cut and dry in my opinion. However, it's down to Toast.Toast - let me know when/if you want this blog post to be shut.Let's not get all ad hominem.
Shutting down blogs over a small misunderstanding seems a bit harsh.
juju, i cannot speak for yaru-yal, but that engine is clearly derivative, I highly doubt any portion of it would be re-used. used as a learning source it could be enlightening for newer users to GM and thus help to make them understand how to make an RPG engine from scratch, that is not exactly using something premade, considering the terminology in the rulesnm
i hope you please to understood, there have been many content-related questions in the RPG Competition and okay it is a bit vague because the rules are n''t completely clear and defined, Toast did not rule out groups of things only telling people along the lines of 'use common sense' and at this point the rules are more of a basic guideline from what i can tellagain, if learning from an engine and how it does something is disallowed, by extension things like RPG Maker and Game Maker would be disallowed, and even pre-existing script libraries and DLLs and sfxr… so i just don't think this is anything to make into an issue, it seems really simple to me, I don't think Sir Toast even needs to intervene and clarify this is a CLEAR CUT THING oh i'm drowsy… ahh… I need a nap…I'm not going to argue this. I think this falls outside of the realm of "reasonable" but there you go - it's Toast's decision.
Rolf: You know what I'm like ;)I really dropped the ball on the rules this time around. Everything is too convoluted.
I'm going to allow it only because people are allowed to use things such as RPG maker, which (I think) has it's own "engine" quite like this. Correct me if I'm wrong. But the condition is that when you submit your game you will have to provide credits for everything you used to make your game, and everyone voting/judging will have access to those credits. I'll especially be pointing out that fact to any judges.
