Motivation = money?

Hi, fine folk,

I'm a strange person.

Yesterday I played Eragon on my friends PC. It didn't catch my attention for more than a damn minute. It was boring, lame and plain stupid. You couldn't actually do much yourself. Everything was pointed out to you, you just needed to walk to the place and press the right button. HOW DAMN FUN IS THAT

Now a question came to my mind. Why the hell was it made, although it isn't entertaining? I found out the answer immediately.

Money.

Now how do the creators feel, making games just for money? How can you actually create something when you're forced to do it? I just don't understand. Okay, it's fine when you make a well thought-out and fun game with your friends and put a little price for it, let's say, a couple of bucks. Then you sell it to your other friends, your schoolmates, etc., and get some money. You feel great and are motivated to make more. But, now lets say you make games for a living. Every morning, you go to job and are forced to create… how can you make anything with no inspiration or motivation? Can an inspiration be… money?… I think making games should only be a hobby, and that indie games are way better than company games.

What is your opinion?

Cheers,

aEon

Hey, if someone gave me money to make crap games where all the graphic design, storyboarding, and plot were done for me, you know I'd do it.

Hey, don't knock it, I was paid for that.

Big Riggs is uber realistic. I heard trucks actually drive like that.

How was it? IIRC, "you win!" before the game started? Pure gold.
