Guys, I have a confession to make. Last night, I attempted to bone an old model. ……… I'm talking about 3d models you pervert! /facetious
So, the last time I rigged a model was ages ago, and in anim8or. Bless you if you remember that old proggy, but I digress. I've grown to prefer Wings3d for modelling, but if you've ever used Wings you know that's about the extent of it's functionality: modeling and texturing. So I've always needed a bigger tool but luckily Blender is there to fill the gaps. Though if you've ever used Blender you know it's not exactly a cakewalk. I don't know about you, but for me it's always been "that tool" that I'm eager to learn but every time I start doing something with it I get in way over my head and just end up frustrated. Well, I decided to change that by diving into it head first, as I have before, only this time I decided to tackle rigging. Which brings me back to last night, I loaded up an old model of mine and attempted to
bone it bring it to life.
It went okay:
I was actually kinda surprised at how easy it was, and spent some time posing my muñeca happily:
But I soon realized it was not all sunshine and buttercups. I was having a suspicious amount of trouble manipulating some of the limbs, which ultimately led me to conclude that I was Doing It Wrong™. So today I decided to embark on a
video tutorial on how to set up a moderate armature in blender. And let me tell you, following along a video tutorial is probably the best way to learn Blender, oh by a longshot. Especially when the tutor enables a Blender addon that shows all his keypresses (very convenient!). But yeah, watching the tutorial verified that I was indeed Doing It Wrong™, and the proper way to use inverse kinematics is not to use Blenders Auto IK, but in fact to add IK constraints manually. And thus I was able to complete the tutorial with a much more practical rig:
I then started experimenting with animation:
Not perfect, but it's a start. Now at least I have something to practice animation with while I continue to work on my modeling/texturing skills. Oh the adventures to be had!
Awesomesause.
Damn, you boned that model good.
It's starting to look like it could be a character in a low-budget television advertisement.EDIT: Oh, you didn't make that thing. I can blame my future nightmares on someone else. That walk got swagger.
a flipping table should be added to the first pic.
and for the last one there should be a caption at the bottom saying, "Haters Gonna Hate"You're making me want to animate my characters.
:CThe urge is so strong. That's a superb Bright Eyes cover.
You forgot the ™ in the title.
