Roller Coaster Tycoon And Windows 7

So I installed it and it worked…. interestingly? I wouldn't say fine as there wre a few oddities.

So upon starting it up, it took forever on a black screen. Maybe a good 8 minutes or so? THen suddenly, it worked.

So I played Forest Frontiers, I won and went to change something. ANd then suddenly BAM - the game freezes when I open a window in the game.

Left it for a good half hour - music kept playing but everything froze. I had to restart.

Any ideas on what happened?

Run it in compatibility mode for windows XP, lock it into 256 colors, run on 640x480 resolution. I would expect it to work since I was able to get Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 to work on windows 7, and that's the same engine.

never tried it in Windows 7 but both RCT and RCT2 run fine whenever i download them on XP, they aren't THAT old. that being said, blackhole is smarter than me so you should listen to him.

That surprises me, considering it is 98% assembly… And Win7 doesn't much like Assembly from what I've heard. I miss the old RCT. v_v

While I'm testing them on my PC (I do like playing them), I'm looking to eventually fix my mom's (read: build a new/buy a new) computer.

I'd probably put Windows 7 on there but given a lot of game she plays is Windows XP Era/before, it'll be a bad thing if she can't play. And since she's not one to mess with virtual machines and whatnot… it'll not be good if it won't run.

I did run in compatibility mode (didn't toggle 256 colors as it seemed to work fine without it) and so far it works great. I think.
