They see me bloggin'

They hatin'….

Anywho, like many 64D members, i'm going to college :D To be more specific, i'm off to UC Riverside to study computer science. Yeah, pretty much the same major everyone is taking. I also bought a new/cheap laptop for school. It's the Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036 and i'm liking it so far.

I still have a few weeks before I start school so, in order to do something productive, I entered a GM competition over at GMG. The competition ends right before I go to school which is somewhat perfect. I picked trash-based, side-scrolling, survival game. Screenshot:

Fun little project.

I also need some help. I'm still working on Seven (also known as this):

I feel kinda stuck gameplay wise. So far it's just a generic platformer. I really can't think of any gameplay ideas. Can you guys help me come up with some interesting…..stuff? I've come up with some awesome boss ideas but other than that bleh. The story: Your grandpa gets kidnapped, you go after him, you find him, turns out he's a fake and you were just an experiment (the 7th one, like the matrix plus one), they try to destroy you, you win (or lose?). Not really a writer :/ Here's a demo of the game (not really just you jumping and stuff, has some bugs):

Arrows: Move/jump

V: shoot bullet 2

C: shoot bullet 1

X: some bomb experiment

Z: suicide

Finally a chance to put this comment where it belongs. Your CSS is badass. And so are your graphics.

As far as platforming suggestions go, I'm a little brain dead, so I'll come up with something tomorrow.

But seriously, consider the physics when doing a boss or something. Go all out, yet at the same time, remember that the player can't really dodge while falling.

Maybe my suggestion then is to incorporate a slightly advanced combat system. Though, that tends to be more on the hardcore side of platformers. Bring back Mario, right? Right?

Other than the jpeg, looks very nice. *plays demo* Cool explosions. I see that you're having the same resolution problems I have with my game (some pixels are x2 some are x1).

Are you looking for gameplay and/or story ideas? Some gimmicks off the top of my head: mountable/summoned beasts, upgradable shit, learnable moves, zelda-esque puzzles, treasure hunts, etc.

The top screen hurts my eyes. Just a little.

@Kilin: You mean like, different actions (shooting different directions not just left/right, different weapon instead of just guns) type of thing? I might add a 'dash in mid-air' type of thing later. Also, thanks. Just got my old desktop background and plastered a new 64D logo + transparency.

@Mush: Crap, didn't know I saved it as a jpeg >_> Mainly gameplay. I want to stick more to the "machine" style if that makes any sense. Maybe controllable machine?

Cool. I don't even know where Norco or Corona are located but thanks for the advice (EDIT: nvm, google mapped it haha Now I know what direction to avoid)

@BBX: Shooting different directions (at least eight) is a plus. Mostly what I was talking about was having different weapons. Say a laser gun is good for one fight, a pistol is good for another, and an SMG is good for another. They don't even have to be situational, but it's nice to have a little choice.

If only 64Digits wasn't using tables and was properly designed this page could have been awesome.

For Seven, I would consider some friction and weight behind the player. And there's very little impact when getting hit or when you hit something.

I like the graphics but the animation is really stiff. On the other hand, it's really vibrant.

As for gameplay suggestions, I would do the shooting in different directions Kilin mentioned and make the grenade more concrete where it'll land, or at least give it a bigger impact. Maybe make its bounce have actual use in the level design.

What Thernz said.

It also looks slightly too Cave Story. Give it your own edge.
