Time Vampires Devlog 01

Working on a new game!

The idea is a minimalist fighter like Lethal League or Divekick. I'm aiming for the general combat speed of Nidhogg however. Inputs are pretty simple, platforming movement, block, and attack.

HOWEVER: A twist exists! Each round is over in one hit, first one to accumulate 5 deaths, loses the game. Once a round is over however, the next round begins with a replay of all previous rounds happening in the same space at the same time. You can block attacks to save your past self to undo your losses, or kill your opponent's past self before he can land the hit to achieve the same end. Also: vampires and vampire hunters, because that would be fun.

Video of my last engine test:

It can create infinite replays, which I'm pretty proud of, so the next step will be programming actual combat and doing some art that ISN'T a minimalist version of Dio.

I like the time travel bit but the vampire part seems kinda forced. What other options did you consider before deciding to go with vampires?

i see panzer does not know his jojo references

(for the uninitiated though, Dio is a vampire antagonist from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure whose stand's signature move is stopping time)

(also i look forward to recreating this fight in ur gaem)

This sounds really fun. Looking forward to playing a demo soon!

panzer, colseed's got it mostly right, Dio Brando from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was an inspiration

Another little bit of it is that gothic style and vampires are just cool. I briefly considered a sci fi art style, but that seemed really really obvious, and since I love Castlevania, it just seemed a more interesting angle.
