Why AT&T sucks

Posted by death on Nov. 25, 2011, 6:12 p.m.

I am paying for a "pro" internet plan (DSL) which is $38.00 a month. This plan is supposed to offer 3.0 mbps (megabits per second). i have been paying for this service for over 3 months now. not once has my internet speed ever gone passed 2.0 mbps. it was at about 1.5 for the first 3 months of service.

About 2 weeks ago the service has gotten worse. the speeds are now at about 0.4 mbps. this is completely unusable. it's hard to load any web page and certainly cannot be used to do any of the things mentioned on the site such as "download at lighting fast speeds" or "stream high quality videos". i can't even load a youtube page let alone stream anything on it.

this is my 2nd time with AT&T, the first time i had a similar plan and was getting much better speeds, however i would lose connection repeatedly. i wasn't sure if it was the service or the crappy modem they forced me to pay for but that was completely unacceptable so i left them for Brighthouse (which i'm going to do again)

the only reason i left Brighthouse last time is because when i couldn't pay a bill, they decided i should pay 4 times the original price because i was late paying it. that shit is robbery, so i didn't want to deal with them anymore… but they're the only ones with decent internet service around here. i guess that's why they can get away with being such assholes…

How can 3Mb possibly be a "pro" plan? I have more *upstream* than that on a consumer plan.

What kind of websites are you loading!?

I get MAYBE 100kbps on a good day (Paying $80/month and allowed 150MB a day -__-), and it's no problem for me. Probably just used to it by now.

i get 40kbps (kilobits per second) so yeah… i can load this site and YYG fine but anything with a bunch of flash or large images, won't load reasonably. Damn what scam service are you paying for? lol my limit is monthly and at 150gb but with my speeds i don't think it could literally be possible to download that much given 30 days.

Are you sure they aren't shitty because of spotty reception?

Or frequent dropped calls?

Or long and regular intervals of internet downtime?

Maybe their shitty brands of phone that either glitch out or break in a month.

Let's not forget about those multiple year binding contracts and cancellation fees.

Take your pick :I

Seeing the speeds that you guys are going at, I am really taking my own internet connection for granted. :P
I raise you one 50Mbit pipe with free switching to 100Mbit if I need the extra bandwidth.

yeah without a doubt, many of their services suck. i have been fortunate enough to avoid any other service from them (other than internet). i got my phone service from Sprint. Ive been with them for years and never had a problem plus LG makes great cell phones imo.

I'm not sure if I should feel good or bad about my 15(I think they have/are going to up it to 25mbps though since I heard they were and I've seen steam download at 2.7MB/s recently)mbps connection… better than 3, but worse than 50/100….

But I live on an small island off the coast of Canada. Do you live underwater, death? On the moon?

Man, I got Clearwire internet, which I've heard is the most shady shit out there. And it was at first, cause as soon as I got it, I downloaded a crapload of stuff, and they throttled me down to dial-up speed for like a week and a half. But then after my first payment, it's been normal ever since. Been able to download Steam stuff up to about 2mbps, play XBL games with close to no lag, browse my PSP, and have two laptops connected at the same time.

Wait, did I just throw in a good word for that company? wtf.
