Time to get serious!

oooooookay… so, i haven't been working on my entry too much… instead I have been playing Serious Sam on Steam! It's awesome, i can't believe i haven't played this game before! I thought the days of DOOM-like FPS games were over but it seems Sam is keeping it going! And strongly i might add.

Now i was expecting something like this in RAGE but RAGE didn't really give me the kinda action i was hoping for. don't get me wrong though, RAGE is a good game, it's just a different kind of game. i felt as if RAGE was more of an RPG than an FPS, though there are some great areas in that game. i think it would have been better off without the questing as it just slows things down imo.

I have only played Serious Sam: First Encounter and Second Encounter, i was wondering what Serious Sam 3 is like. Is it the same badass action shooter?

I'm also looking forward to DOOM 4 but i didn't like DOOM 3 as much as the original so i'm wondering what they're gonna do with it. I just hope they don't go "Duke Nukem Forever" with DOOM 4 if you know what i mean.

Serious Sam 2 is different from The Second Encounter, right?

i believe so.

Serious Sam 2 made me want to kick puppies. The original games were straightforward shooters reminiscent of a 3D Smash TV. Serious Sam 2 was just Halo, but with Serious Sam replacing Master Chief and loaded with annoying cutscenes.
really? that's unfortunate… i think i'm still gonna give it a try though.

And as for running SS3 on max, what's your rig specs? Cause see, I can max pretty much every game at a good framerate too, but for some reason, turning the GPU speed up in SS3 caused a major slowdown for my system.

I had no problem running it on all maxed/1920x1080 during the free weekend a while ago, and I've got a 3 year old video card.

Are you trying to run it on a low/medium-end laptop..? Or are you running it at 2560x1600 or 2560x1440?

Well, I play all my games on my laptop, which is on the low-end of the high-end spectrum.

Nvidia GTX560m 2gb

And I usually run my games at 1600x900, which is the native res.

Seems that my theory of it having some optimization issues was right, as I just set it back to ultra, lowered a few settings/turned off some useless ones, and now I'm running it at about 40-55fps most of the time.

And remember that I mentioned the slowdown only happened in singleplayer, I maxed it easily up to 60 in survival and deathmatch maps.

single player levels are much larger than survival maps so single player is always going to be more of a strain on the hardware.

i got a big beefy PC so i don't think i'll have the same problem =3

Well when you get it, we gotta play some deathmatch and survival.

Deathmatch is actually pretty fun, lol. I played my first match today and ended up winning the match with like 15 kills and 5 deaths.

Jesus Christ, the 560m must be quite a bit worse than a normal 560.

I wouldn't know. All I know is the performance is awesome for a laptop, and it gets the job done.

Mobile cards from nVidia (and AMD for that matter) have little relation to the desktop cards they share the name of.
