oooooookay… so, i haven't been working on my entry too much… instead I have been playing Serious Sam on Steam! It's awesome, i can't believe i haven't played this game before! I thought the days of DOOM-like FPS games were over but it seems Sam is keeping it going! And strongly i might add.
Now i was expecting something like this in RAGE but RAGE didn't really give me the kinda action i was hoping for. don't get me wrong though, RAGE is a good game, it's just a different kind of game. i felt as if RAGE was more of an RPG than an FPS, though there are some great areas in that game. i think it would have been better off without the questing as it just slows things down imo.I have only played Serious Sam: First Encounter and Second Encounter, i was wondering what Serious Sam 3 is like. Is it the same badass action shooter? I'm also looking forward to DOOM 4 but i didn't like DOOM 3 as much as the original so i'm wondering what they're gonna do with it. I just hope they don't go "Duke Nukem Forever" with DOOM 4 if you know what i mean.
Everyone to their own opinions. Me? I think RAGE was a horrible fail on id's part, and they should have been working on DOOM4, which as far as I know, is scrapped, and not happening for at least four more years.
I bought Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter yesterday, and I fuckin' love it, survival is hard as a bitch, but who cares, you get to shoot shit.I also bought Serious Sam 3 yesterday as well. The graphics are pretty damn awesome, the only thing is that it is very demanding, and with all the settings cranked to ultra, my FPS jumps around from 21 to 40, and averages at 30, and this is at a resolution of 1366x768 (my native is 1600x900), so you really need to have a good system to run this full power. It's still basically the same game game as Second Encounter from what I can tell so far. It's just slower paced, and there are fewer enemies thrown at you in earlier levels. But yea, if you wanna hook up in a co-op game on one of em, my Steam is thirdzero7.we'll that's good to hear that SS3 is still the same =3
oh and i do have a souper awesome PC so i should be able to play it on max lol. i can play Skyrim, Rage and just about anything else on max =DI tried to give it a chance, I really did. But what really causes me to hate games is when they promise so much, and then don't deliver on all fronts.
I have been pissing my pants over RAGE since I saw an early article about it in a GameInformer mag from early 2009, it was supposed to be THE SHIT.I play the game almost three years later. It's not the shit, it's just shit, and in the first 20 minutes I came to that conclusion. I tried sooooo hard to give it a real chance, but I just couldn't do it. Maybe I'll try again later. And as for running SS3 on max, what's your rig specs? Cause see, I can max pretty much every game at a good framerate too, but for some reason, turning the GPU speed up in SS3 caused a major slowdown for my system. The odd thing is, on ultra settings, playing singleplayer, I get down to 20fps. But in the survival mode maps at the same settings (which there are only two of) I get around 60fps. I think it's an optimization issue. My two biggest gripes with RAGE are:
1. how separate vehicle and on foot combat are - it's like playing two different games2. a huge world to explore that has nothing in itI enjoyed parts, but as a whole I found it mediocre. This is why Kickstarter is probably going to struggle - if investors/consumers (the same thing for Kickstarter) lose confidence then the whole house of cards collapses.
I've got Serious Sam 2. Haven't (yet) grabbed the earlier games.
But I'll have to agree that RAGE was a letdown on the hype side. So the lesson? Ignore the hype if you can, play the game for the sake of the game, and judge it with a clear mind. I still love blazing through Doom and Quake (Especially on Nightmare difficulty for the latter).Serious Sam 2 made me want to kick puppies. The original games were straightforward shooters reminiscent of a 3D Smash TV. Serious Sam 2 was just Halo, but with Serious Sam replacing Master Chief and loaded with annoying cutscenes.
It's as if they said, "Now that we've got a bigger budget, we can finally make the exact same games everyone else is making!"
