I feel it's been too long since i posted anything regarding my project. As i may have mentioned in my last blog, i changed my project a bit. I gave some breif information but didn't show much. So this time i brought some screenshots with me. Any criticism is welcomed.
Title Screen:Dungeon entrance:Town wall:My only issue right now is creating the sprites for weapons, and enemies. i suck at doing those 2 things and i can't move much further into this project until i do. so if anyone has some time to kill and want to help me out, i would appreciate it a lot.i don't have much code for enemies yet because i only have 1 sprite for an enemy right now. enemy sprites are in 4 directions and move accordingly to the camera (though that code still has some problems).Weapons will range from 3 categories: Melee, Ranged, Magic. The abilities are special powers gained from leveling up and can be improved when leveling up with AP (ability points). SP is used for magic and ability use. Also the player is a vampire who used to be human. He is awakened by a mage who gives you the task of killing a cult-group who plan on reviving ancient demons and bring them into the human world. Killing enemies in a more bloody way will grant you more HP recovery. Example: slice through flesh with a sword and that'll heal you more than shooting them in the face with an arrow. The game is not exactly an open-world RPG, it's more of a Hexen style action game with RPG elements. It's going to be somewhat linear, with optional side stuff, one city, and secret entrances to new/secret areas. Hard to explain but that's all i got for now.
yeah the title screen and hud are still being worked on. i don't know what color to make the title itself since the red text always seems to consume all of your focus. i purple or green in mind, just to at least make it different from the basic text.
also the font i use is custom made sprites. i also use a custom made sprite_font drawing script just for this game.At first I thought I had accidentally clicked on Mega's blog. >_>
What you have so far looks pretty awesome.I had some trouble recognising the first letter as a T in your menu, but maybe that's just me.Bloody rewards sound like a lot of fun too.Ha the 2nd screen does have a remarkable similarity to the first room in Doom.
actually the 2nd screenshot was influenced more from the first level of Hexen, though there are many difference. the only thing it really shares in common is the pillars and glass-windows. this is almost my first time making fully 3D rooms so for now, to get the hang of things, i'm copying other game's rooms to learn more about it. it's a much different experience making a 3D room than making a 2D one.
Don't take this wrong It looks great but you should check out the course tehnology book Game Interface Design [:)]
Your doing better than I am.
