You are the first to hear of this exciting project!I am creating a set of scripts to easily use FLAC in game maker version 6.1! This will open up many new ways to compress audio for games. To put this in perspective, take your average wav file. Let's try one at 22050kHz that's 1 second long and 74kb. Now, FLAC on highest compression makes it only 58.2kb. That's only 78.65% of the original filesize! We have cut 21.35% of this file out, without any quality loss - FLAC is wonderful in the fact that it is COMPLETELY lossless. Imagine transporting all your sound effects like that! The system I am making is called GMFLAC. <s>Right now all it does is encode files to FLAC and decode FLACs to their original state, but I'm working on getting it to play.</s><b>GMFLAC now plays FLAC files!</b>Want to help? Wait… what is this exactly? If you had read the provided link and the post, you would know.
Basically, FLAC is an audio codec that makes sound files smaller without lowering their quality, like the difference between a BMP and a PNG.
JakeX hit it straight on. And the google ads want me to buy Gas Vapor Recovery Units.
Leading the field in the design and fabrication of VRU's and LACT Units!
Ouch, shaltif tried to squah your project by saying his dll already supports flac files. He should be warned because he's advertising his own thing in other's topics.
lol, I don't want to buy a Gas Vapor Recovery Unit, i also don't want to compress pdfs more than 90% or Shrink Corporate PSTsSounds awesome. =)
Shaltif missed the point of the project. SXMS *PLAYS* them, but does it encode them and allow restoration?
Regardless, his post gave me an idea on how to play the files…
