Before I start talking about this, I would like to be the first to say that having a rugby team instead of a football team is a bit retarded… But since no one seems to realize that, I'll have to settle for rugby. I saw some of it before on TV, and have met a few people who play it. It seems a lot more rougher than football because there is no protection in it whatsoever. It has a touchdown just like in football, and a field goal likewise. I am not too familiar with the rules of rugby, but it seems like fun, and since there is no football team Ill have to settle for this. I am in grade 10 and the team will consist of grade 9's and grade 10's. This sort of seems like an advantage for me, but I am not the fastest runner (in fact I'm a horrible runner), its just not my thing. I am a very tough body checker though and am really good at tackling. That sounds like the perfect description of a rugby player, but as it turns out the team also needs speedy runners who can carry the ball. I will try the position in the strum (or whatever it's called). Thats the position where they drop the ball, and you have to get it loose and pass it to your runners. Anyways, I have no idea on how to play the game, but neither does anyone else trying out. I hope that my tackling will be enough to get me on the team, because like I mentioned before, I'm a slow runner (I'm a bit below average in running actually, but Im definatly not fast!!!)
Anyone out there play rugby? Anyone have advice? Anyone know the rules? I'd appreciate some help!!!
Advice:
Don't pick up the ball, unless you like being crushed under a bundle of people.wear a cup
@Marbs: I know, its ridicolous… on the screen all you could see are a bumch of people running after the ball, and then if anyone picks it up the whole team just runs into him! I have the tryouts tommorow are lunch and I cant decide if I should go… I m not worried about getting ran over though since compared to my size my speed/agility is really good…
@Goku: I don't have to, no one will actually since the teacher said that injuries in that area rarely ever happen (I just don't know if I should believe him!!!).do you live in england? And if you dont want to get destroyed, dont touch the ball. Thats as simple as the advise gets… [:P]
Good luck too you.Ahh, Rugby. Your 'football' is just a walk in the park in comparison.
Lol actually im in Canada, why do you think it's so retarded to have a rugby team in North America!?!?!I would prefer a football team but thats not gonna happen. Like I said before, Ill be okay on that part, the people trying out are about 5'2-5'8, me being 5'8, so Im not really afraid of the people, Im just afraid I won't have enough stamina to keep up with the smaller more speedier guys. I might consider playing defense btw.
ah yes, good ol rugby. my american friends at my international school said that once you play rugby even american football seems boring afterwards. Anyways, your team should try to learn a haka like the all blacks in new zealand (thats where they're from right).
Tape your ears, unless you want them to get ripped off. I'm not kidding…..
Your school has a rugby team?
I agree with marbs' advice.rugby is more of a manly sport than football. Football is just a stolen name of what Americans call soccer. You hardly even use feet in Football.Football is for retards mostly. American football at least, regular football is good. Running is also a good sport.Oh, and also, I suggest kicking the ball instead of running with it.
