Hey what's up. I was reading a blog here on 64D (I for get what blog that was. I'm sure you will find it on the recent tab) and found that it directed me to a page with RPG cliches. The page didn't have a lot, but then I was redirected to another page with 192 RPG cliches ( http://project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html ).
Inspired by this, I would like you guys to take part in a little exercise.:We are all going to write in the comments section of this post cliches commonly found in First person shooters.NOTE——-Given the nature of the genre, add the following letters in the first line of every post.[A] : Cliches common to ALL FPS's : Cliches common to OLD SCHOOL FPS's[C] : Cliches common to CURRENT GENERATION FPS's

@Kilin
[qoute]Now wouldn't it be interesting if they had a top-down FPS with bubble blowers. What a twist! It's so revolutionary that it calls for a whole new genre![/qoute]Top-down FPS? That doesn't make sense! First person means from the players perspective. Top-down automatically means TPS.Oh, no. I AM A NERD!!!@TDOTI don't know what games you play, I have NEVER heard of a game with Zombie Alien Nazis.also[C]Health regenerates like your freaking Piccolo from DBZ. Even in realistic games (seriously, think about lead poisoning and infections).Recoil? What recoil?
[A]: Good thing everyone uses my guns or ammo type…
[C]: Super armoured space marines.
[C] Weapons can only fire four rounds before jamming/stoppage but can immediately be fixed by reloading.
@mazi: That was the point. I know what an FPS is. See below.
[A] You can't see your feet!
I'd label the feet O save for all the games still coming out where you can't. Chlichés have exceptions, but I can't see my feet in Bioshock or Borderlands and neither one is old, by any stretch.
Something like Mirror's Edge where you can see your feet or even not entirely rely on guns is the exception; the cliché is the rule. Thus why my post (it was my post, yeah) was citing both offenders and those trying to combat the foul trends, whereas the one you're after is basically going for the RPG list idea of "big fat clichés that were true a decade a go and have only come so far since."With that…[C] It's set in World War 2.[C] If it's not set in World War 2, it must have Space Marines.
