Hey guys. I just wanted to throw this out there, and see who's interested in, or has time for a music composition competition. Of course, this one would (hopefully) be a lot more organized than the last one, and I'll actually have time to sit down and judge this one, because I don't need to do Wintermester, seeing as I passed all my classes.

I am willing to participate.
My submission will serve to help the judging by giving a clear 0/10 baseline.star trek gifs
ermahgerdAlright I'm participating as well, I've improved quite a lot since last time in my opinion :D
I'm not really sure how I could make an orchestral piece resemble space thoughyou guys get images from the nerdiest parts of tumblr, don't you?
i see i missed my chance at making a "30-minute prog song" joke. so i guess i'll have to cap it after five minutes or so like a normal person. :PAlright! This looks promising. So now we've got Juurian, Juju, MMORPGguy, Kamira, Charlie, and Iasper.
Kamira's idea sounds fair. I asked about the cap just because I know that putting a limit on music is confining, and it's also annoying. A lot of pieces just wouldn't feel natural. So, don't make your pieces ridiculously long, for the sake of the judges and listeners. I mean, as far as I can tell, you could get away with a 12-minute piece as long as all 12 minutes keep me entertained. Also, I'm pretty sure no one put in ideas for theme. I think Space is a broad enough theme, but regardless, trombone or euphonium could just about fit any theme we throw out there. Iasper seemed to have trouble with the theme, though…I'll probably find some way to make it sound a bit spacy, but since everyone associates space with technology and stuff I think most pieces will have random blips and other electronic sounds which I for example couldn't do as easily. Don't mind me though, I'll find some way to make it sound like it should.
You make a good point, but that's kind of what I was going for. You could make it resemble some of the music in 2001: A Space Odyssey, or an epic space adventure, or you could just make it sound very techno and robotic. I suggested space because (to me), it sounds like a broad enough theme that just about anything could fit it.
All opposed, suggest something! Also, flashback, I totally skipped over your comment. I apologize. What did you mean by that?I want to try~
Taizen's in!
Steven hit the nail on the head. Ambient's totally the word I was looking for. But really, just watch any movie about space, and really listen to the music behind each scene. The possibilities are endless!
