You know, whoever said that these were the best years of our life was seriously mistaken. If you ask me, in this day and age all our lives are is torture. we spend our lives always preparing for the next step- grade school for middle school for high school for college for the real world for retirement for death. So we live our lives to die.
…Anway, beck to why school sucks. Our society (the american one anyway) has been using the same system of education for the past century, and needless to say a lot has changed in the past 100 years. What was important back in 1900 is no longer important now, nor is it probably even relevant. If you ask me our current system of forcing students to take every subject is torturous. In an age where specialized work forces are extremely important, shouldnt we be allowed to choose our classes more selectively? I dont want to fritter my day away analyzing books or learning about the civil war; i want to learn how to use computers better, higher and higher math, concepts which are beaten out of my daily schedule by topics i have no interest in. Why is it that i am forced to take history or english? Is there some group of people out there who just wants to torture me? No, there probably isnt, but all i am saying is that students' grades suffer as a result of being forced to learn all day. If we were allowed to not take courses like english, languages, history, health, gym, algebra, science, and replace them with courses that we had more of an interest in, then the average grade in america would be much higher then a C (72%, last i checked). If students are only understanding 72% of the material (in general) then something ahs to change. School should be engineered to teach our students how to be the best, not to sort us.Why am i this mad? i dont know. i just felt like ranting.
Note: Some people seem to be getting the gist that i am suggesting to ELIMINATE classes. THis is not true; i just beleive it would be better if students could CHOOSE their classes with more power, not being required to take everything.

Since this is a game design-centered site, you might be wise to think of how history can help you learn common lessons and intelligent theories. If we only learn what is new, we will only end up returning to what is old yet again.
What if everyone learned how to use solar energy at 400% efficiency, and so older power modules were eliminated, then humans were led to inhabit a planet that had different solar activity that didn't react well with our solar technology? We'd have to re-learn old manners of power production. What if we perfect medical technology to eliminate current medicine practices, but leave us vulnerable to an old disease such as small pox that we just didn't feel we needed to learn about anymore? You are a fool if you think that study of the past does not help us in the future.oh and u think work and making it on ur own is better than your parents buying everything 4 u and not having to work for scratch and in crappy conditions? u hate school? ditto. join the club
all other subjects serve as background knowlednge for say, video game design. if you say screw history or screw science what good realistic concepts can you create without background knowledge. its being well-rounded thats important
Of all the subjects that should be removed - I say English.
There is alot of great literature that is part of the average English curriculum in schools. If you are like me and read on your own free will and frequently, and can make your own theories on meanings and not have to discuss it with others, I applaud your skill. The problem is that most people are not like that, and need to be forced to learn things that go with their curriculum. Otherwise the schools are suddenly somehow responsible for the child failing at life.
If you want someone to blame for the school etaching you useless information, blame parents. They are the ones that sued schools for their children's failure (which was mostly their fault, not the schools'). For that, the country initiated the NCLB act, which basically says that for average students, the entire curriculum is mandatory and not of any choice by the students. They can't choose what they want to learn out of certain topics. Everything is already laid out for you.Congratulations America. Suing everyone seemed like such a good idea at the time, but look where it got us.(FYI, if I get sued during adulthood, I will not hesitate to kill the person that does it if it is for a useless reason. I'll go to jail for life for my belief that sueing someone for verbal harassment or prejudice due to actions is ridiculous.)I hate people that make a living off of complaint, and so i agree with you there johnny. There is no way that failure in school is the school's fault.
And johnny, the fact is that i hate history. I am not saying to not teach it at all, but to give students a choice of wheter or not to take it. Also, giving students a choice of classes before high school is just stupid, and it is in those periods where the students could learn their basic history, and if they find it interesting enough to keep them happy with it then they should be allowed to do it. All i am saying is that it is stupid to force students to take every class. You know what pisses ME off?! The fact that those sum-bitches made US take that stupid EXIT EXAM and then TAKE IT AWAY for the next grades!!! Bastards!! e_e;;;; *heavy breathing*
^^ anywho… they are right though. We do need to know about the past…no matter how bring it may be.And no! Not english!! v.v I like english. Though American Literature kdn be pretty boring sometimes…. Grapes Of Wrath… e_e *shudder*jeez melee…
