You know, whoever said that these were the best years of our life was seriously mistaken. If you ask me, in this day and age all our lives are is torture. we spend our lives always preparing for the next step- grade school for middle school for high school for college for the real world for retirement for death. So we live our lives to die.
…Anway, beck to why school sucks. Our society (the american one anyway) has been using the same system of education for the past century, and needless to say a lot has changed in the past 100 years. What was important back in 1900 is no longer important now, nor is it probably even relevant. If you ask me our current system of forcing students to take every subject is torturous. In an age where specialized work forces are extremely important, shouldnt we be allowed to choose our classes more selectively? I dont want to fritter my day away analyzing books or learning about the civil war; i want to learn how to use computers better, higher and higher math, concepts which are beaten out of my daily schedule by topics i have no interest in. Why is it that i am forced to take history or english? Is there some group of people out there who just wants to torture me? No, there probably isnt, but all i am saying is that students' grades suffer as a result of being forced to learn all day. If we were allowed to not take courses like english, languages, history, health, gym, algebra, science, and replace them with courses that we had more of an interest in, then the average grade in america would be much higher then a C (72%, last i checked). If students are only understanding 72% of the material (in general) then something ahs to change. School should be engineered to teach our students how to be the best, not to sort us.Why am i this mad? i dont know. i just felt like ranting.
Note: Some people seem to be getting the gist that i am suggesting to ELIMINATE classes. THis is not true; i just beleive it would be better if students could CHOOSE their classes with more power, not being required to take everything.

Thank you for that long-ass comment.
The best book ever written remains to be the original "Battle Royale" novel by Koushun TakamiUh, melee? d00d…
Anyway, I used to complain about stuff like this before, but now that I'm in college, I've learned that a generalistic approach is very important in education. Many people get jobs that are in line with the degree they took in college, but many people also do not end up with jobs that they originally aimed for. A person who has a broader knowledge will have a greatly higher chance of ending up with a decent job than a specialist who cannot do anything else. Think about it.Besides, you may become absolutely boring to talk to if all you know about is advanced mathematics, for instance. :)I was gonna say basically what Joewoof said.
You need all thsoe subjects, so that you have something to fall back on. Plus, when you start highschool, most people have no idea what they're going to be, and hopefully the broad subjects should help with that. AND, on top of that, you change a lot in your teen years…Somehting you want to do when you're 15 might not be what you want to be in another 10 years.Things like the manditory four years of english (in Canada anyway) is pretty rediculus though. You can cram everything you've learned into one year…And they sort of did that, but over the first two years…Then the last two years are basically just review and practise. Also, like SJF said, a lot of students need to be forced to study a lot of the stuff.I love history, science, math, etc, and I do a lot of research on these topics by myself, but again, most people don't haev this mentality. If they can get off with the easiest ammount of work, they'll take that path.People are already retarded enough as it is, without them being able to choose what they want to do.People are already retarted enough as it is? thats a problem.
Why dont we take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? [=D]You thi9nk the same way as my dad! GO YOU!
