New.Gm - Alpha 1.0!

Just for 64digits members only so far… New.Gm has been released as a shitty hack-job alpha!

http://steverolfe.com/newdotgm/newdotgm.exe

Everyone who put in a non-ip address for the nameserver's ip field will be omitted until their account has been updated (just pm me for now, I'll finish the script later).

Also realize that unless your webhost has a dns zone file for your .gm domain then it will NOT work. Just create an addon domain or a new account for your .gm domain name (if your host fails at life, then use coreFusion, http://core-fusion.net/forums).

To update local DNS records:

Just leave the client running, or it will update on each startup (of the client). Eventually I'll make it minimize and have fun like that, but not yet… Too lazy so far.

I'll restate this, YOU MUST HAVE ADDED ON YOUR .GM DOMAIN, OR REGISTERED IT WITH A SEPARATE ACCOUNT! If you do not then your .gm domain will not resolve properly!

And don't give me bullshit like "Well thats why we have a DNS system in place… etc", blah blah blah. Just tell me what you think of it.

If you still haven't registered your .gm domain name, then just do so IN FIREFOX ONLY (for now) at:

Enjoy.

Nice, although I still have no idea what to do after registering…

-> cPanel -> Addon Domains -> type it in…

As far as I'm concerned, cPanel needs to be set to ignore whether the domain exists, which Steve has just done a few mins ago…

You mean because some company managed to convince the government that they should be given the right to charge people for domain names?

I'll just let JakeX's explanation sink in…

Erm, don't complain to me. Like it or not, that's how it is. Creating your own DNS system is simply futile for the most part, due to the fact that the vast majority of users won't be able to find your sites advertised at the given domain. Unless you envision this to be come de-facto right?

Oh, so you mean 'tell me what you think so long as it's what I want to hear' right?

Okay, I think I understand this now. Core-fusion is made of fail. Are there any other good hosts that will support this?

Also, what port should I forward to, if any?

smarttart62 17 years ago

Any host should be able to use .gm domain names, it just depends on the settings in place on your host.

Basil, you don't understand… The program doesn't host your site, you have a host online, and then just point the domain name to the correct nameserver ip address of your host.

I don't know how to do that…

What do I use for the name server?

smarttart62 17 years ago

The ip of the nameserver of your host.

So for example, with CoreFusion, the nameserver is ns1.core-fusion.net

The IP can be easily found by running the command prompt and typing: ping ns1.core-fusion.net

Sheesh, someone's filled with teen angst.

I'm just saying I don't give a shit if there are companies made to manage domain names and what-have-you. Apparently New.NET makes enough profit off of $30 domain names to stay in business, so why can't I offer a community-friendly address for free?
