Escaping lavender town

Posted by supmaster004 on Sept. 4, 2012, 4:02 p.m.

Greetings, people from 64digits.com.

I have been largely absent for the past years, and kinda gave up on programming halfway, but I'm starting to get a bit interretsed in it again.

Therefore, the game that I am presenting to you today is a very old one, some of you might have played it already, some of you may not.

It is basically one of my most famous games on the internet. There are countless videos of it on youtube (but please don't watch them, play the game first :D )

so I am presenting it to your community today.

Controls:

arrows: move

space/enter: talk to people/read signs

This game takes place in lavender town. It was originally created for the RDC (rapid developement competition) and was made in 4 hours. The theme for this contest was "life" So I decided to create a game that acts on real life.

Unfortunately, when came the moment to test the game, all judges disappeared from the IRC and were never heard of again for a few hours. So there was no ranking.

(also we were only four contestants)

I haven't really opened this game file recently so I have no clue if it still works or not, but you should try it:

Well depends. I think most of those effects would be perfectly managable on a game boy advance, but maybe not a gameboy ._.

edit: what's a jumpscare? ._.

A jumpscare is a cheap horror effect where everything seems calm but SUDDENLY a monster (or something otherwise treathening) jumps out from a shadow or thru a window or something. Often accompanied by a sudden blast of sound and rapid camera movement.

Basically, you catch the player off guard and hope to scare him. Thus its label as a cheap effect.

Owch. Just came back from TvTropes after copying that URL. Warning: starting to read something on TvTropes may trap you for hours. You'll love every second, but still.

This game rings a bell. Was it on the GMG at one stage?

supmaster004 12 years, 3 months ago

it was on the sandbox and GMC, that's all. Also gamejolt but don't go there :o
