Cartooning

Posted by uglyman on Jan. 19, 2007, 5:27 p.m.

I enjoy cartooning. Or to be more specific, trying to cartoon. [:P] Most of the game ideas I have in my "Brain Bank" come from a drawing I made or such.

Probably the hardest thing about cartooning is the hands. They take freakin' way too long to perfect. Drat those cartoon hands! I am a moderatly good head and body cartoonist but I completly suck at drawing hands. I spent about 2 hours yesterday trying to get a thumbs-up hand to look half-decent and it makes me want to just give up the whole thing entirely.

I get a lot of inspiration for my comic people and stories from Bill Watterson. I love his "Calvin and Hobbes" books and often copy his style of work. The peanuts comics are equally good for coming up with a gag or story. I had a webcomic started untill my computer crashed 2 years ago and I couldn't recover my images. [:(]

I wish my scanner was working 'cuz then I could show you my concept drawings of characters and such…

Try to add a bit more content in your blogs.

<div id="blah1" style="display:none;">

I had a period of time where i only drew hands.

@ ludamad

Dangit, sorry. I'm not very good at saying longer things 'cuz I'm used to blogspots huge font.

@ chiggerfruit

Really? Did you get any real big improvements out of it?

chiggerfruit 17 years, 11 months ago

Yah it really did. Hands are one of those things that make the picture look more refined. It also helped me with proper proportioning.

But you can judge that yourself by clicking [Imagefest] those were when i was just starting with hands though.

Yeah I guess you're right but I'm getting tired of doing them over and over again. Then again, I need to be able to draw them well in order to get the rest of the picture right.

Uh…

I don't get what "[imagefest]" is supposed to mean…

You click it and you can see my hand drawings.. i did it like that so it wouldn't stretch the page unless you wanted to see them.

Either it's not working or I'm a complete idiot. [:P]

clicking on imagefest does nothing at all…. Its just some text that I can highlight and copy/paste.

Nevermind, it didn't work on the second one he did, but the first one worked.
