Game Maker on Linux

I know you probably saw the title for this and though… "OH NO! Not another one!!"

Well, yes, it is another one. I'm just in a happy mood at the moment because, after trying to install GM8 on my Ubuntu laptop, I gave up and decided to try and install GM6.1, and it works! Perfectly!

Granted, there are some issues with the image editor, room editor and object editor, but f you know your way around Game Maker, then it's a breeze!

I was so happy when it opened and asked me, "Would you like to enable Advanced mode?", yes, yes I do!

I proceeded to test the one thing that was on my mind… "Can Linux handle D3D functions?". So, I transfered a pre-made model from my Windows laptop, loaded it, and voila! Perfect! I know this might not be interesting to you, but I'm over the moon about this!

Secondly I thought, hmmm, surfaces? I was never sure about surfaces on Linux, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway, needless to say, it worked.

If anyone here knows of issues that will arise with using GM on Linux, post it here and I'll see if I can induce the problem! :P

Peace for now furry land lubbers!

GM6 didn't have shit-ware protection either.

@Cpsgames Hmm, thanks for that! I'll look into it.

@sir Xemic I agree with you, I'm not a huge fan of Yoyo Games, but, they have done a lot for Game Maker, so I must applaud them for that.

I got a cracked version of GM8 to work fine… but the games wouldn't. (Not on my PC though.)

Mark made GM7- YoYo just published it. Also they're taking out Softwrap as I said. Also you're illogical- YoYo has done nothing but 1) good things like guarantee the continued development of GM, keep it from being sold to Atari, set up their site with instant play, port GM to other platforms like Mac, iPhone, Android, etc. improving its efficiency a lot in the process, started implementing way nice improvements, and 2) raising the price $5. Why would anyone possibly dislike them?
