I take a week off...

_begin:

So I quietly disappear for a week, come back and:

> reidd has been unbanned

> somebody starts a Consoles vs PCs topic

> LAR's city is burning

> somebody else starts a stereotype 'want team, will pay bugger-all' blog.

And most shockingly:

> 64digits weekly gaming night has become the 64digits weekly knit-in try get stuff done night.

Anyway, I 'left' for a short while to get the internet in general out of my system.

I can't get anything done, nor can I relax, while I'm silently fuming over stupid comments I accidentally read on news sites/Youtube pages.

Turns out that turning the connection off for a bit actually does aid the creative process. I finally managed to start work on a new piece of music:

Also decided to screw game development for an indefinite amount of time; I have many ideas, but working with these ideas is not within my grasp at the moment; nothing new there.

I have got a few small prototypes I made during my week off that I'm not sharing until they're playable (In this case, 'prototype' meaning a mockup thingy, really).

One of them is a Columns clone. Because Columns. Got a few extra mechanics to add.

No, Cyrus. Nothing for F4D. Sorry :(

On another note, I've been spending the week playing several NES games, noting some of the interesting effects I never seemed to notice before (Ninja Gaiden 3 has multiple layers of parallax scrolling, and Megaman 5 has a scrolling background that is mixed with a static background and level pieces.)

So yeah… time to go actually read these new blogs and perhaps comment.

TL;DR: JMP _begin

I use puush for everything. It's a great little program that always runs in the background and automatically uploads screenshots, and best of all, is blocked when Kilin is taking the train.

Looks useful, though I do prefer the fact that my screenshots on Dropbox will stick around for a couple of years if they're not accessed :P

and a few things from some of those old games on the Genesis like Mean Bean Machine (And Puyo Puyo, I think).
i used to be a beast at Mean Bean Machine, i'd play it in any form. i'm out of practice, my past self could put me to shame right now. :P

I love columns and most match3 games. (as well as tetris). I'm not sure what i'm looking at in that screenshot though :P

Not sure if 1 week counts as away, i spend sometimes a month away from here and similarly for the GMC, though i often lurk there more than anything.

Oddly enough, i'm most motivated for working on games when i have the LEAST amount of free time. it's pretty weird. maybe getting a soul crushing job could help you out with working on your games lol
