So, Ferret kindly gave my Dark Souls a couple of nights ago (Thanks Ferret :3), and it finished downloading this morning. Playing it offline, since I want to get used to the game on my own without a bunch of phantoms scaring the living crap outta me :P
Maybe on Saturday some of us can gear up for a game?Anyway, my first 30 minutes with the game was spent… not dying, but wishing that Games For Windows LIVE would die. In nuclear fire. Preferably now instead of in July.So after being forced at knife-point to register for an XBox Live account, in Internet Explorer no less, I finally got… a mandatory (And rude) update screen. Another ten minutes in and I clicked past a few annoying messages (Missing a crucial one, it turns out), and finally got into the game. Starting the gameNo pictures, because I didn't think of taking any. Didn't matter anyway, for reasons you'll see later. :PI made a Warrior character to start with, took the Divine Blessing, Average build. One in-game, I started running around and progressed through the tutorial area pretty quickly. Until I hit the courtyard area where the first boss first appears. Let's put it this way: I got crushed no fewer than five times before I noticed the tiny door in the shadows to the left.Moving on…Rest of the level went fairly easily. Got to what I assume is the 'last' area of the tutorial level, and saw the final help text on the ground. Something about falling and attacking. OK.Walk through white shiney portal. Am on ledge. "Oh hi boss!"Completely missed him on the way down and took half a second to recover. In which time I was beaten to a pulp. :PSo yeah. I died a total of seven times in the tutorial level, then decided to take a break. Only one little problem…One of the GFWL messages I'd dismissed was about how I was supposed to restart the game after the update before I would be allowed to sign in. So I was playing in Offline mode. Which meant: No savegames. :<So now I have to do the tutorial area again; not that I'm complaining. I want to reconsider the build I started with anyway, and do better this time.I'm all for a Dark Souls gaming night, by the way. :PPics of some of my adventure:
Eventually defeated this guy a total of three times. Mostly because I forgot to sign in the first time, defeated him with my online profile the second, and figured out that offline profiles were a thing on the third.Onwards to Lordran…Look how happy my character is! Dragons! Can't tell for sure, but I'm pretty sure my shield wasn't looking like that when I started out :<I died down there. I'm not going back down there. That way lies madness and some foul revenant or something that I can't block properly. Nice walkway.Called it. Look how many fucks I'm not giving.Suffice to say, I died a lot.Then I figured this out. Lured him up to the top of the tower and danced for around seven minutes…Saw that coming a mile away :P
Ahh Dark Souls, isn't it painfully lovely? I might go back and finish my 2nd run just for the hell of it. Mostly because i haven't played anything decent SINCE Dark Souls, at least in the RPG genre. Actually can't wait for Dark Souls II. i'm willing to pay full price for that baby when it comes out.
@Mega
@DeathSame. I'm probably going to buy it on release day. I hope they eventually remake them for the next gen consoles. I'd buy them again. (I've already bought Dark Souls 3 times)It's so addictive. Every time I've died so far, I think "OK, what did I do wrong this time?", and then go back and try again.
Anyway, I think I've worked out a strategy for Taurus Demon. Gonna run up the tower and drop-attack him before he leaps up. Should be a decent initial blow.Yay, another chosen undead is now running around Lordran so I can
Here's a few pointers:-Don't look stuff up on your first playthrough lest you want the game spoiled for you.-Read this:invade the shit out of him and pillage his humanityengage in jolly cooperation with!I suck at Demon Souls, but I love it. I need to pick up Dark Souls. These games are the perfect difficulty in my opinion - hard but never unfair, as far as I've seen. You always have an opportunity to NOT make mistakes, and if you do die, you have the opportunity to fix the mistake you made in the last life. Life can be restored, but death doesn't feel meaningless.
Got past Taurus Demon. Was a piece of cake with the strategy I used. And then I ran right into this:
Found out about a little stairway on the right on the second run, but got killed by poisonous rats. @Unaligned: Finally I know who your avatar is. Just met him :P (Right before getting toasted by the dragon I saw near the beginning.)I've already installed dsfix, and have already downloaded dscfix/dsmfix.i never played with friends but i'd be down for it. Although as far as i can remember, don't we have to be near the same level ? I'm like Lv. 136 or something lol. (although i do have a 2nd character in the 20's)
I think I'm currently Lv. 15 or 16. I can grind a bit though if I have to.
Unless everybody wants to start out with fresh characters?yea i wouldnt mind that either. the problem with that though is they wouldnt be used much though and as far as i know, you can only summon one player at a time and they must have a summoning stone or something, so starting with new characters would actually take more time just to get summoned.
Just read through this: http://darksouls.wikidot.com/co-op
That means that any fresh character would need to at least get to the Undead Burg, defeat the Taurus Demon and meet Solaire to get a white sign soapstone.
