*Hey I need a new joystick*

How do I enter?

I'll give you the best retro gaming experience only money can buy!

lol ya I'm going to have to get one for myself eventually. You enter simply by submitting your game, you dont need to register or anything. However if enough people participate I may need to set up a registration form to save them a slot. Also more prizes are on the way, I'm doing a bunch of fundraiser things at my school. I want to have three top prizes, and then category prizes like "Best Graphics" wins something graphic related, "Best Sound" wins something sound related etc

I just gotta work on my site to have an official place to host this and it'll be game time! Judging will be a nightmare tho, if I have more than 100 entries it may take me till christmas lol

Oh wow count me in on this! >:D

Question: Does the game have to be a remake, or can it be an original in the spirit of a classic system?

JuurianChi 13 years, 11 months ago

I'd like to know that too.

There will be a prize category for "Most Faithful" but it doesn't have to be a clone to win overall. I'll update the rules to explain that better thanks, but to answer your question: Let's say you are making a remake of the original Super Mario Bros for example. If you add in weapons, a leveling system, all kinds of upgrades…well…you don't have Super Mario Bros anymore. The judge should be able to play the game and say "This feels like Super Mario Bros". You can even use completely different characters so long as it is, like you said, "in the spirit of the classic". Good question.

I'm still working out what the grading system will be. I'm trying to work out a system that allows the newbie coder with a truly unique approach to compete with the veteran coder who does not. I want everyone who competes, regardless of experience, to have an equal chance - if that makes any sense lol. It shouldn't be like chess where the more experienced player will always win no matter what, but like a match of Robot Wars, where the most unique approaches win.

I'll need to elaborate the rules further tomorrow! I'm actually not going to make this official until another day or so anyways, still working on the homepage for the event…

Heh, joysticks. Nobody uses– Are they compatible with Touhou? *cheesy grin*

I used my old one with Scarlet Fog(or however the translation goes….), but I think I used a button mapping tool.

Scarlet Fog? Did I just find someone else who knows what I'm talking about?
