64Digits Winter Comp

Posted by Castypher on Dec. 4, 2011, 6:01 p.m.

As some of you may know, our host has stepped down. I know some people were really looking forward to it, especially after how great of a host Toast was (unintentional, I swear). I for one would like to see it continue as planned. We saw a great boost in productivity with S4D, and I highly agree with those who say we should hold more competitions.

So unless nobody steps up, I will host the competition. I'll do a more official blog when it's more…official, and nobody more suitable takes my place. And if you think you'd make a better host, by all means feel free. I just want to see the competition proceed. That being said, 64DCG will take a backseat role for now, but I've got all my questions answered anyway.

So as before, the competition is still scheduled to begin on December 7th, 2011, and will go to December 30th, 2011. That gives you roughly three weeks taking the holidays into account. Until then, you are allowed to plan your game so long as you hold physical production until after the competition starts.

Qwilderwibben has agreed to showcase the winner in an effort to increase publicity, and I'll look at throwing in some Steam-related prizes as well.

The theme will be winter, obviously. I don't like limiting people to Christmas, since 1) there's more than one religion on this site and 2) I find Christmas by itself to be fairly boring. So be creative. We had some great entries for S4D.

However, I do not want to see any Santa zombie shooters.

Unlike Toast, I might submit an entry for fun, but it will not be judged for obvious reasons. Voting will be worked out during the competition, but for now I want to see it start.

Like I said, I'll post a more official blog, but for now:

Entrants:

- JuurianChi

- Stevenup7002

- Rez (?)

- JID

- Colseed (?)

- Acid

- S3xySeele

- Toast

Prizes

- Four copies of L4D2, one for each winner, as long as they don't own the game

- A copy of Terraria for those who don't already own it

- Dungeon Defenders/Terraria

I would enter, but i stand by my finals and christmas excuses to have it after the holiday. Good luck to everyone who enters!

Astryl 12 years, 10 months ago

Hmm. I'll enter. But if I place, I want Terraria, not L4D2 (Can't download it. Too big).

Toast 12 years, 10 months ago

I'm in.

Thanks for doing this Killin

Winter is coming…

I will of course claim to enter and then fail to deliver, this is the season of tradition after all.

Unaligned 12 years, 10 months ago

I'll attempt to enter, and I'll give away the prize of either Dungeon Defenders or Terraria on Steam (I have to figure out which I'd rather gift to a friend, and which to give as a competition prize, although chances are I'll let the 64DC winner decide instead).

You know what? It's been too long since I've made a game. I'm in.

Flashback entering, JID making a game with graphics by Rez, we already have some really good entrants. Also, if Kilin's the host, a Sayuri Christmas special would be out of the question.

Gift of Death 12 years, 10 months ago

I'll do something for this contest this time! I swear!

JID 12 years, 10 months ago

if Rez isn't gonna do anything, colseed might do the graphics for me, although I'm not completely sure if he wants to do the comp yet either.

i already have some really good ideas for the story for my game and some ideas for the gameplay mechanics, so I'm set to start working.

colseed 12 years, 10 months ago

As long as I have time to do this (which I should since it'll be winter break), I'll do it.

I needed a good excuse to develop this skeletal animation thing anyway. >:3

you don't mind skeletal animation stuff right JID? -_o

assuming I actually program it right…if not there will be crazy tablet sketching tiemz
