Let's Play More Games

Some of you may hate me for saying this, but I had so much fun when we were all actively playing on the Minecraft server with at least ten people on at all times. In fact, I went back a few months ago and there was nobody on. I felt like I was looking back at my childhood; that was the nostalgia I was getting.

And recently I've been addicted to Terraria, but playing solo is just not as much fun.

There are lots of multiplayer games out there, especially on Steam. If we can find something cheap to play, or even have a Minecraft/Terraria/TF2/LoL night, I think that'd be fun. I miss playing with some of you guys, and for a little reverse psychology, all we do is sit here and scratch our asses anyway, right? Why not scratch our asses on a video game?

Content? Okay. Lixim is once again facing potential problems, but I've been doing a lot of conceptualizing. Here's one question I'd like to throw at you all, though, and I'll bold it for good measure.

What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of mixing an action platformer with a life simulation?

I'm pretty good at making genre hybrids and having them work, but this is a complicated game, and thus needs some more input before I jump in.

Mostly (yes, a lot of this has come from Terraria), the action platformer bit is optional, and refers to bosses that you have to defeat in order to unlock areas. Additionally, the player can change the difficulty once per game day, which affects the death penalty, mostly. Unlike some games though, not just the difficulty is adjusted. The player gains many perks for living on the edge, too, like access to new machines, increased capability, etc.

The life sim isn't in regards to the player. This isn't a survival game, though I do want it to be dark with an imminent death looming overhead on the hardest difficulty. The life simulation is the ability to raise Lixies, the endangered race of the world, protecting them and using them as allies. They'll fight for you, for the most part, but require your help to survive, for the most part.

If any of you are familiar with the Creatures franchise, particularly the original trilogy, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Let me know what you think, please. I would really appreciate the input.

As for my V4D prize of a random Steam game, I do remember. Send me your Steam ID or Steam-associated e-mail (or just add kilin08 as a friend), and I'll get to you as soon as I see a good game.

Also, Creatures 4 is coming out soon!

(I'm up for some Terraria/TF2)

The only disadvantage I can think of is overall interest.

A few years back Jake and I tried making a platformer that let the player build a fortress and occasionally walk away to find more material for the building. the player had to manage health (food, walking.) and could build robots to take care of other boring things.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. If you make it I don't think you have to worry about

I'd be interested in playing Terraria, especially since I haven't played since the initial release and there have been some big updates. Also TF2, except my SSD is full so I couldn't play that at the moment.

I've found I don't find Minecraft fun unless a few other people are on the server. I do like how we have preserved the same map for so long though; you can travel back through your memories. It is very strange realising just how old some of the constructions are.

You're welcom – oh, I actually did read some of this blog.

How about a game like borderlands? Canadonian, myself, and a couple of our friends might replay it again.

I think it'd be REALLY fun to play through an RPG with a few people from 64D.

We could play some L4D or Payday: The Heist as well.

I never did get into TF2…

Anyone doing anything tonight? I could play something on steam for a few hours tonight, in like 2 hours?

(you can add me with cfcfirestormx)

I say we make a teamspeak server.

I never did play Borderlands.

Let's do that too.

I'd be down for TF2/LoL, but I suck at LoL.

The biomes are all messed up, and a lot of my old creations no longer work :/

we used to have multiplayer matches in Soldat, those were always a lot of fun. am i the only one who remembers those? damn i'm getting old. Capture the Flag was the best, we could do something similar in Minecraft.

or just have a REAL survival map where it's every man for himself :)

Soldat would be fun

I have Terraria and it really is a good game. It's the first game I bought on steam. I'm up for some multiplayer.

I also haven't been on the Minecraft multiplayer server because I'm playing with the latest snapshots and the server isn't updated to those yet. Although even if it was updated, nobody ever plays survival anyway and that's what I like the most in Minecraft.

A new survival marathon on a new map then? Should work.

KaBob's going to write a biome editor in CheeseMod so you can choose what biome you want on that place :)

And Jungle's won't be added to the map anyway because they'll only appear in maps generated in 1.2 from then on.
