64Completition Progress Check 3

Posted by Castypher on May 31, 2013, 1:41 p.m.

This one's a little early in order to offset how late the last one was.

You guys know the drill. And, since we've gotten new entries in each blog, you can feel free to enter here as well. Sadly for Eagly though, there will be no punishments this time, as every user has a fair excuse as to why they can't work, even though I find it hard to believe that with the exception of finals week, you can't at least open the source.

Additionally, I see a lot of people stressing about the deadline. The main deadline is still July 12th, and I still want to see complete games by then, but there will be an additional month to work. While this month is meant for polishing, bugtesting, and detailing, you can spend it how you wish.

However, I, and a few selected individuals, will be judging the progress you've made at the two-month marker, and publicly announcing our thoughts. This may seem daunting at first, but if you've done well, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, you should probably look forward to it.

Small Cows, +1 me again, I dare you.

Okay, here's the deal:

I'm not saying "Fuck it, I quit" yet, but I've spent 2 days making negative progress. For whatever reason, I had real fun working on the original Firebug concept back when I had only 3 days to patch something together, but now, working on a remake feels like a chore and nothing goes as planned. Iunno, it may also have something to do with the fact that I've been depressed as fuck recently.

I'll give it a week… we'll see if I manage to get it back on track, or if it's totally hopeless.

(p.s. that's also the reason I didn't reply to you about music, aeron)

Polystyrene Man- In each level, you must draw a path that only covers one square of each region. Different colored regions have different rules - you must cover two squares of blue regions, and you can visit a yellow region as many times as you like as long as you don't cover two squares on it consecutively.

On a related note, today I'm implementing tutorials.

Sorry, I've been trying to get the enemies to stand out more against the background.

I think I made the background too dark and the enemies too bright, though.

Solid color minimalism is actually a more difficult style to get right than regular sprites.

What if I outlined enemies in black? or would that just look silly?

EDIT: It would look like this;

Thoughts?

@charlie: I like the look of the upper screenshot more.

In motion, it should be relatively easy to tell the enemies apart from the background.

I prefer the top screenshot as well.

I actually like the outlines.

It looks cool both ways, Charlie.

I'm sure nobody outside the elitist indie community would sneeze at the outlines (Which give it an Nifty/interesting Cartoon look).

As for my progress:

Nope.avi

not this week anyway.

This week I haven't touched the game, but I pirated some Rosetta Stone and now I'm learning spanish, for, umm, the spanish version of the game I guess.

I didn't work at all on my game last week, due to crashes and laziness, nothing to say…
