Nanowrimo July 2013

So for all you writers out there, you might be familiar with National Novel Writing Month, or Nanowrimo for short. If you're not, it's an opportunity to write a novel in a single month with thousands of other people who are going for the same goal.

While it's usually set in November, they do like to do one or two during the summer as well. The site is here:

http://campnanowrimo.org/

Camp Nanowrimo has one big difference from the main event, and that's the matchmaking portion, where you're assigned into "cabins" of people who are writing similar stories.

I remember we had a few people participating last November, including myself and marbs, and since it's summer and a lot of stuff has died down, I'd like to see who's interested in participating this next month, and see if we can have a place to share ideas and frustrations with each other, and maybe even have some critique sessions.

OR BETTER YET, TEAMSPEAK READINGS.

Today is the 27th, and the event spans all of July, so there's not a whole lot of time left to come up with an idea. The goal is to meet 50,000 words, which is 1,667 words a day. It's a difficult challenge that not everyone can make, but it does feel good when you come out having finished something.

And that's only the beginning!

Post here with your Nanowrimo IDs too, so we can buddy up.

F1ak3r on there, as everywhere. I might not actually have time to reach 50k, but I'd like to do a bit of writing at least. It's been a while.

I'm pretty sure I'm Mistreach on the site. I don't know what I'm entering yet but I want to get back in the game. Haven't written actively for a while.

JuurianChi.

I'm in.

I wonder what I should write.

Maybe an action mystery.

Or a romantic comedy.

Or a supernatural visual interpretation of my mind to the eyes of an outsider.

They would find the mind of a psychopath. ψ(*`ー´)ψ

HAHAHA

What was I thinking?

There's no time for this

I'm conflicted as to whether or not I should join in on this. I haven't written any fiction in a long time, and I've definitely never shown others my writing…

Oh FFS. I'll join. I'll post my ID in a minute.

I had an old NaNoWriMo account lurking around. So I'm using that…

I've never done NaNoWriMo before but I'm seriously thinking about it. I have the time for now, but I'm just worried I won't write fast enough. I have the idea at least, I think.

EDIT: Ok I made an account at least: http://www.campnanowrimo.org/campers/seleney

Actually, I'm more curious about what other members here have written for previous tinyringworms nanowrimos.

I have participated in three Nanowrimo events:

- The first one (November 2011), I managed to meet the goal, but ended up rewriting the story from scratch a little later.

- The second one (June 2012), I fell just short of the 50k goal, with a half-written story (I set my goals for 75-80k, not the recommended 50).

- The third one (November 2012), I made it halfway very early on, then due to a lack of direction (and a very inspiring dream), I started again from scratch and made it halfway again.

However, I'm not put off by any of this. Writing something you're proud of in a month is either impossible, or you're easily entertained, because after the first draft, a story will always see drastic changes, unless you're Stephen King.

This time I'll probably attempt another rewrite at my first entry, now that the idea is a little more fleshed out than before.

Maybe we could host something similar where we're only asked to write a 3,000-word short story within that time. That's 100 words a day, I feel like honestly we'd end up with something a lot more polished, inspired, and, most importantly, completed.

For the people who are interested in writing, I think a short story contest/event would be very interesting.
