So, Windows 10 is out now.
I just got done installing it on my work PC. I didn't care to go through installing all of my work programs again so I just did the in-place-upgrade to go from Windows 7 to 10. I had the worst experience at first. The start button didn't do anything, task manager wouldn't work at all (freeze on launch), and the task bar itself would freeze up after touching it once and would need a full OS restart (restarting via cmd wouldn't fix it). After 4 or 5 restarts everything is working beautifully and I'm glad to finally have this computer on something other than Windows 7!My home PC I'm going to do a full fresh install though, definitely. Short blog, sorry. Figured this could be a place for discussion for Windows 10. Regardless, it's Steven's fault.Anyone else upgrade yet or are planning to?
Here's a nice simple batch script to remove OneDrive since it's forced otherwise. Gets rid of the process and explorer integration.
Hmm, my PC says it isn't ready to update. Weird.
If the upgrade program (the one sitting in the tray) says you are reserved and eligible but doesn't have a download option you can use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (for 64bit; 32 bit is here). You'll have to do the upgrade option first. Once Windows says it's activated you can do a fresh install if you wish.
My work PC was offered the upgrade right away but my home computer wasn't. I did the above method for home and it worked fine.I have been updating GeForce GTX 750 drivers twice within 24 hours, first before I upgraded my Windows 10 Insider Preview to TH1 build 10240 and now after upgrading. And during both times the installation first fails and forces me to try again.
EDIT: And this time if failed twice! Damn it, I'll boot Linux Mint and play Nuclear Throne.Upgrade install seems to have gone off without much of a hitch on my work machine. Office deactivated itself, but that's solvable.
Overall it was the easiest upgrade I've ever done. But my laptop didn't get the update yet… I might end up doing a clean windows install on it though since it is OEM partitioned and a pain to work with.
Windows 10 seems pretty solid to me after I restarted and ran the GeForce Experience program to get the Windows 10 driver.
