Basically, I took the old sprites and scaled them 2x then drew over them so they are twice the size but the same proportions and stuff. I was just bored really, but I kinda like how it looks. It makes me miss the old Depths style; it was more cartoon-esque. I even had a dream where I remade Depths with this style and kept it old-school 2D style platform graphics and realized it would be so much easier than the 3D I'm doing now and could quickly convert most of the graphics from the current depths to be used in 2D. It's a tempting idea, after all. You've all said you miss the old depths style and the 3D is gimmicky and I admit it does take up a lot of time I wish I could be spending on gameplay and story-telling.What are your thoughts? If somehow magically, I could have been working on a 2D old style depths with these new hi-res graphics this whole time instead of this 3D version, would you think I'd be better off? Just a thought. As I said, A LOT of the graphics would transfer, and just be replaced with 2D versions. It sounds almost easier than drudging on with the task of making everything 3D.Any thoughts at all?

I played your last demo and it reminded me of how I like that little guy.I say go for it, I prefer the older design over the new one.As for the 3d, that's your call imo. sure it's gimmicky but it's a cool gimmick.ohreally? when is teamspeak night I'd like to be a part of that
YES! i love the pseudo3d you've done but it's sooo different than the original Depths, i always thought you could definitely get away with making a totally separate game out of the 2d version.
actually, i was thinking about this about a week ago.. how much i kind of preferred the old Depths style and how much time has changed it.I like the contrast of the armor on the new sprite better than the smoothness on the new old sprite.
The current character looks like a tough guy with a knack for kicking ash.The new/old character looks like a manic midget who needs to lay off the donuts.That's just what I think. Either way, both are equally viable sprites drawn beyond the skill level of anyone else on this website.As for the 3D to 2D, I don't care one way or another; either one would work well.Teamspeak night happens every saturday around 8pm to 4am FirestormX time.
I'm a bigger fan of these new sprite honestly. It gives Depths it's own feel and originality. With a proportionate human character, it's going to feel like yet another exploration game.

Do you like the old style or not, Reidd?You know, I was thinking it might be time to go back to basics. I can code wicked fast now since I've come up with all these time-saving code-recycling methods, I could blaze throught the coding if I went back to a 2D model. Besides, the 3D is still lacking and pretty heavy on CPU, I think it might be best to go with a clean, lightweight, efficient style that can allow for much more variety in the game.
There's always room for a 3d Depths sequel too anyway. :D
