As you guys may have known, I'm a big fan of Epic Games, and particularly the Gears of War series. The art in those games have just had a HUGE influence on my art style ever since I got a taste of Unreal Tournament 2004. But when I saw UT3 and Gears of War, just those over the top detailed characters, guns, environments, the fucking -ace- art directing, I just flip-flopped from all the anime I was doing to what I do currently. So I mean, I'm not just mindlessly following the series; it has influenced me, a lot. If it wasn't for those games, I probably would have never found the world of concept art.Minus all the blabbing, I have been collecting Gears of War items lately, and man is it awesome. I'm just in love with every aspect of the series. The collecting really started when my gf got me the GoW3 Limited Edition controller for Xmas, and on my B-day, I was sent even more GoW stuff. I needed moooooreeee. And so recently, I've gotten more.I started with the GoW3 figures from NECA.Had to wait a while for Marcus to get here, but I got him eventually.I decided to order Anya too, so I could have all six of them in the series 1 and 2 GoW3 figures. Even though I don't really like Anya.Next I decided I needed to make it official. So I needed limited editions, collectors editions, that sort of stuff. And most definitely, the Gears of War3 Epic Edition.[From to left to right: Gears of War: Limited Collectors Edition - Gears of War 2: Limited Edition - Gears of War 3: Epic Edition - the games below them are the regular GoW 1 2 and 3]Here's a crappy pic of the statue I received from the Epic Edition. It's made by Triforce, so of course it is fuckin' excellent.Aaand the Limited Edition GoW3 Brady Guide which I mostly just got as a collectors item. Came this morning. There are a bunch of other little things I have: the GoW2 wristband, GoW3 COG tags, two different GoW3 keychains, Bulletstorm: Epic Edition which came with the GoW3 Beta, just tons of stuff. So I'm not even done collecting yet, but I have to stop for a while as I'm due in Scotland early this August. But here's what I got on the way.AnyaAnd I've been thinking about getting one of these team metal blue retro lancer replicas from Gamestop. But I can't really figure if it's worth the $100.Anyways. Not much else to say, due to the lack of art these days, as I have been doodling in my sketchbook more than I have digitally, and scanning all those pages is a bitch. Expect a sketchdump in my next blog.Ahhh I feel bad for not leaving anything off. Here, have this GoW fan-art character I made up a year ago.
i definitely relate to having one thing totally flip your perspective on what you want as an artist. though for me it was anime ironically XD
though of course simpler animations and medieval/feudal era themes are way easier to design. you're in a field where only the most skilled should reside.@Juurian, that was almost funny, until the image loaded.I love Gears, and I've been meaning to get the books. If you've read them, are they any good?
Also I wish that Judgment wasn't being released so soon. Gears 3 still seems too new to have the next Gears game out.Sweet! When I first joined the site I did a lot of flipping out over Gears 3, but I didn't think anyone here was really that into it. Good to know I'm not the only one! (Well, besides Kamira :P ) If you ever feel like playing online, just find me. My gamertag is A squidget. :)
I knew this had to be a Gears blog by Eva as soon as I saw the title. lol
but yeah, about Judgement. I wish they wasn't releasing it so soon either. Also, I'm going to try to not get so excited about Judgement. because I'm tired of Cliffy always acting like he's always learning from his mistakes with every Gears game, only to introduce something completely new to mess up with it.This is pretty much is what I hear from Cliffy everytime he admits he messed up something:"Oops, I totally screwed up some stuff in the last Gears game I made. I'm sorry. Now hurry up and buy the new game I'm about to release."There's Gears of War… books?
I'm definitely buying this if it goes on sale again…
I don't recall them ever having it 'on the shelves' locally. Which is probably why I never got it in the first place.
