Fruity Bricks

I EAT WAFFLES.

Well I am making some very slow progress to my hobo game, and I got bored of working with the mechanics so I decided to work on the graphics a bit since when something looks nice I tend to like working on it a little more. The first thing I worked on was the tiles. I want the first episode of levels to take place in the city and being that the main character is a hobo I plan on making everything look dirty. Because I want this game to feel gamey as well, I decide bricks would be the best type of platforms. However I realized that I suck at colouring bricks, or at least colours to make it dirty, and in fact made my bricks look fruity O-o

Oh hey, look, 64Digits is full of artistic people :D

So I was wondering, would any of you willing participants be able to help me by either giving hints or messing with the tile set itself? I just would like some suggestions to the colors or any tricks to make it look dirty. I also do plan on placing other objects such as trash cans and the such to fit the setting of the level as well.

In other news… Why are we putting so much attention into Alexia the Rabbit? Don't get me wrong, I really really love seeing all this contribution to this game, Daggerhog should be extremely thankful that we aren't yyg (downvoting?) and are giving so much constructive help. But why this game in particular? I mean we all do have a love for platforms, and this game does have nice sprites in particular may have been what attracted us….

Idk though, any other ideas?

F1ak3r gave an interesting suggestion as to why we are doing this in one of his comments,

I think the game's strongest point right now is that it's made everyone here want it to be better than it is - so much so that they were all inspired to write lengthy reviews. That, or we're all a bunch of furries. =/
Oh god did I just use a quote transition the same way I do in my essays for school? What am I becoming? O-o

This is definitely it. I'm just an avid fan of platformers, and the style of the game caught my attention. I see too many titles fall into the oblivion of discontinuation due to lack of interest, inability to set aside time, or realizing that the maker is in over their head; I don't want that to be the case for AtR.

EDIT: Those are some hella spikes. Modifying the bricks would eventually lead to modifying the spikes and anything else in the tile set. I'm not a very good spriter, but I would add some discoloration to the bricks to give them a 'rough' look.

The graphics look pretty inconsistent in resolution. I would keep everything's outline the same thickness. But yeah, the hobo's right shoulder looks a bit out of resolution with the rest of his sprite too. I wouldn't outline the bricks. It makes little sense since they're supposed to be tiled and connect together. I guess you'll need multiple brick tiles for the edges.

A-Also, I clicked Alexia at first because she wasn't a geometric character.

Try replacing the black in the brick with #BCA983

Sixty-fur digits?

These are some big spikes.

I never really liked that. Whenever I die killed by touching giant spikes, I think "oh, fuck you, game, that's not possible".

Now if a giant spike were to stab you in the crotch, on the other hand, that could provide an understandable death.

Or just make your girlfriend very, very unhappy.

Actually I believe my giant spike makes my girlfriend very happy.
