I am not one to complain much about certain things, but this has been bugging me lately, so I figured I'd write a blog about it. I've been a member of GMG (Gmae Maker Games) for about a year now, and since then I've posted demos of my games, final versions, and participated in the off topic part of the community a bit. It's not the forum I visit the most, but I do find it fun to drop in now and then. When I finished Hover Tank 3D in January 06, I posted it at the GMC and at the GMG. I also just recently posted Linked on their forum.
The part about all this that bugs me is that when I submitted HT3D to their games archive, I figured it would take a couple of weeks or so, and then it would be reviewed by one of the staff, or even featured in the monthly spotlight, if they felt it was good enough. So I've waited, and waited, seen many of the newer games get reviewed… And now, half a year later, HT3D has yet to be reviewed, and Linked, posted within hours of the GMC topic, got it's first post about 5 minutes ago.I say to GMG: What gives? I know my games aren't perfect, but the differences between responses from one forum to the other is absurd.
I would have reviewed it myself (being on the GMG staff) but in all honesty I didn't really like it :(
Certainly not from a technical point. As far as pushing the engine went, HT3D was incredible, and its obvious you've put a huge amount of effort into it. I'm just not a fan of 3D games in GM, and I felt I wouldn't be giving the opinion that most people would agree with. And there are thousands of games in the GMG archive. Most of them crap. I can't speak for the other staff members, but my reviewing process involves a random selection of games for review, not just ones I liked - you can't just review the good games, somebody needs to bag the crap ones :)
