So, a week or two ago I showed some artwork. One being a platform to my current project.. Someone mentioned that dynamic grass would be a nice effect and since then I've been working on a little system to achieve such an effect. Sooo, here's what I've got so far and it's still a work in progress. Tell me what you think. Note that in my last preview of the platform/grass I used varying grass blades. In this preview I just used a simple grass blade. I just want to get the system working fine.
File: .ZIPSize: about 2mbContains: GM8 .exeDirections: Run the mouse through the grass as if something is walking through it and watch a slight wind effect cause the grass to sway.Link: http://64digits.com/users/Glen/dynamic_grass.zipMy goal on this project is to create a nice environment that runs dynamically to give a realistic effect. I like games that make me pause and stare at the details.
Theres no FPS counter, but it looked good. Smooth and nice looking. Though I would think if someone was walking in it, it would move a little faster.
really niceI'm working on making a simple platformer to show the effect when walking through it. I'll add an FPS counter as well next time. Any other suggestions?
That font, in your banner, I know it. I have used it. I will find it again, yes, of course, it must be in the fonts folder of DEATH AND DOOM…
The effect looks nice, but two things:
1 - The way the grass is rendered looks too blurry, and seems as if it can impact game speed.2 - The wind effect is something I expected, but with all the grass moving the same amount at the same time, it also seems slightly unrealistic.Other than that, nice effect. If you can master a few more environmental effects, you'd have a very nice look and feel to any game you put these in.Sorry Obelisk, lol. And thanks for the advice Kilin.
Exactly what Kilin said x2.
The grass flow around the mouse was realistic however, like the last platform you drew up the grass doesn't match the platform :(
