Tower Defense Ideas

So I've been working on my last creation, Savage Defense 3. I'm looking to get version 4 done and was going over ideas on how to further intensify gameplay and strategy. Normally a Tower Defense style game has the basic "set up a defense and survive the waves" type of gameplay. I was wondering what you guys think about this idea. Imagine the computer also setting up a defense and at the same time you can buy armies of creatures to send their way as well. This will give the player more options. You either defend well, attack fiercely, or balance it out. What do you think?

btw, screenshot of v4 so far:

- New button system

- More environment detail

Terrain uses surfaces, but to save computers I took screenshots of the rendered terrain and set it as a background. The textures can be modified easily, right now they're random textures from the internet. I used them in the previous versions.

That's right, you had those textures last time you posted about this.

How to get free original textures, CAMERA+GIMP=FREE TEXTURES.

Use an offset and bandaid/clone brushes to fix up non-repeating edges, and done.

Either that or I can share my texture horde, it's just gathering dust.

Right now I have this long to-do list of things i need to program. I'll get to the artwork eventually. Not in a rush to finish it and I want to be thorough and make it run efficiently. I had lagging issues in the last version. Looking to fix all of that and I want the game to be longer. I'd like to enter it into a Halloween comp one day, but it's too late for all of the ones going on this year. So maybe next year. I'm trying to stick with the whole evil/creature theme. Trying to keep things… savage?

I felt that there wasn't enough to do in my previous versions. I had players set up a defense and then sit there for 10-20 waves and watch all the enemies die.

Heh I remember those ground textures.

yep, the engine kinda killed some computers i tested the surface based terrain with. Couldn't find a decent dynamic terrain system that didn't kill fps. So I just took screenshots of the terrain i made.
