Fixin Them Graphics

Posted by JID on Nov. 29, 2011, 6 p.m.

I did a lot of productive stuff today, one of them which i'm developing a new graphics engine for The World's End.

it's going to help me out a lot. it'll be easier to make new animations for my characters and easier for me to allow AI to pick up weapons in the game.

Quick vid:

more on that soon.

also, i've been thinking of renaming The World's End to something shorter and more memorable. i can't really think of anything good really. tell me if you've got any ideas.

plus, I've gotten better at coloring with my tablet.

did a quick doodle of the main character today:

since overhauling the graphics allows much easier animations, i'm overhauling some of the gameplay in campaign too.

i'm going to make its level design much less linear, the player will be able to choose multiple paths to go to, i'll add some stealth elements(slim chance though), hand to hand combat(which i've been thinking of implementing for years now), and I'll add a new "kill cam" to campaign, where the game will sometimes go into slow motion, when the last enemy is killed, showing their gruesome death in slow motion. these will all be pretty easy to do espeacially since i've got a new animation system.

lastly, more info on that other game I'm making, I've named it "Fallen", havent been working on it too much recently, was trying to focus on some possible graphical styles for TWE. but I did get a really good story down. It'll be a short game though, you'll be able to beat it in like 30 minutes.

in case you don't remember which game i'm talking about:

also, everyone seems to have their own games to work on lately, i'm glad to see people making games again. it's getting me motivated to do more things for my games now. :D

with that said, I just might enter the next compo.

Here you go:

Normal Size

LARge Size :D

They're pretty much identical to yours. Hope you like them.

thanks a lot, they fit in with the game pretty well too. :D

No problem. Hope your game turns out amazing!

Did you use the big version or the regular version. I made the big one just in case it didn't look very good when the mouse cursor gets too far away from the player.

I used the normal one, seems to work quite fine. I might test the bigger one later, see how that is.

also, thinking of changing the game's name to Extinction. But sounds very generic.

@that video:

Hear that Taizen? Better get some graphics going, because someone's trying to build you a little hype.

If Qwilder's channel gets big, our games get big. pretty much. it's nice to have a little support when pouring your soul into a game.

Qwilder should do reviews of our games also, lol.

I agree. That would certainly motivate me to actually finish something.

I saw that video a long time ago. I was his only comment on it :V

Graphics will be enhanced before 1.0. And eh. You might like the changes, you might not.

Sexification is also on the priority list for Lunacy Star Second.

It'll also be more like a Cave shooter. With smexy visuals, not MIDI music, and a game released previously to back it up, what could go wrong? :P

(here's where you all yell "don't start a sequel before finishing the first, Taizen")

I did ask him if he would, though, so some of the grandeur of having someone do it out of the blue is lost. *sigh
